Children in their own room at hotel

Hi mums,

I need to book the dreaded airport hotel! My kids will be 10yo, 8yo and 10mo.

We are being flogged 2 rooms, 1 with a double and cot and a second with 2 twin beds. The rooms are not connected but will be “near” each other, whatever that means.

Would you go for this? A 10yo and 8yo alone for around 7-8 hours in their own room?

Other option is a single room for me and baby and a double with single for husband and two older kids. Nobody really fancies this, but it’s just one night and I want my kids to be safe.

What does everyone else think? My kids are neither “old” nor “young” for their age. Just ordinary.

I usually book self catering (airbnb etc) but this is a case of us flying in from our holiday at midnight and not being able to safely do the onward trip home. We need to flop straight into the airport hotel and then go and get the car in the morning.

No you cant leave a 10 and 7 year old in a hotel room on their own. You need to spilt the rooms between you and DH.

Why can’t you stay in the double with the 8yo and baby and Dad in twin with the 10yo? It’s not ideal but it’s only one night and you can’t leave kids that age in a hotel room away from you imo.

As others have said, I would automatically think one parent per room and share the children between you.

Mine are 14 & 12, we did an airport hotel last week and had 2 twin rooms with a parent and child in each, I didn’t trust the kids to not fight or want them getting themselves up very early (we had to be in the airport by 6:30am). Worked out fine, with an airport hotel you’re only really sleeping there.

This is the most obvious solution. Like you say its just one night.

One parent per room until they are teens.

Maybe this but other way around as 10yo is girl and 8yo is boy, so kids may prefer it that way.

Just don’t think either of the older kids fancy being in with baby as she still night feeds, IYSWIM.

Plus, if I’m taking the baby, the DH can take both of the “easy ones” 😂

Okay, thanks. I’ll book so that kids are with dad.

Did you ring the hotel or use the website? I assume the price is per room rather than per person. I would ring again and ask if they have a room with a double bed and two singles with out mentioning children at all. If they do I would take it and put the baby in between you in the double.

It may not work but I have noticed that hotels seem to push two rooms when you mention children although will be happy to give one to a group of friends. I
