Freiburg im Breisgau

We have two days in Freiburg during the Easter holidays. Does anyone have any recommendations for things to do while we're there? The rest of the family are pretty active (DP has found scootering down a mountain and bouldering in a climbing centre as suitable activities, for example) so I am interested in things like this, but also maybe some slightly milder activities for me...

Basically, all info gratefully received!

It's a LONG time since I was there - my school penpal lived in a village nearby and I spent the Summer with her in my late teens - but I remember it as a pretty city with a very impressive cathedral, nice University buildings and plenty of coffee and cake shops. But mainly we spent a lot of time in the outdoors and I also remember going to one of those "living history" museums with historic Black Forest buildings and people in traditional dress which was very interesting. It's a very beautiful part of the world and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I'm not into "extreme" outdoor activities but there were plenty of straightforward walks and bike rides in the area and the scenery and architecture are lovely.

Oh that sounds good! Thanks. I'll look into it. I don't mind walking, I'm probably worrying unnecessarily (although I'd really rather do something else than sit in a bouldering centre all afternoon, which is currently on the agenda!).

I think you could probably fill an afternoon quite happily just meandering around centre - take a look at the cathedral, treat yourself in a nice cafe etc. As I say, it's many years since I was there so things will no doubt have changed, but I recall it being quite compact with good public transport.

I was there a few years ago. It's not far from Europa Park. You probably wouldn't do that by yourself, but maybe you could persuade your DP to go with you.

Otherwise, I think there's enough to do a for an afternoon or two. Just wonder around the shops, take a walking tour, sit outside a cafe and order some cake. Some of the churches might have concerts, if that's your thing.

Or you could take a trainride through the Black Forest:

There'll probably be a mineral bath nearby where you could go for a swim and a sauna. Just check on the clothing policy before you go.
