Have you rented a holiday house in Austria?

We're looking to go on holiday to the Austrian Alps this summer. I've been looking for rentals on Airbnb. Of the 720 apartments/ houses that came up on my search, only one had a washing machine. What's that about? Does everyone take their clothes to a launderette? Are there communal washing machines for the apartment blocks? Does everyone bring loads of pairs of pants and just look faintly grubby at the end of their holiday?

We're a family of 5, always self cater and normally run a wash most days on holiday. We were hoping to be away for 2 1/2 weeks. I haven't got enough clothes to see me through the holiday without washing and I really don't want to spend precious holiday days hanging out in a launderette.

We went to an Airbnb last summer in Austria. We had a 3 bed flat on one floor, the owners lived in a flat on the top floor. The owner's washing machine was in the basement and we were able to use it when we were there.

I would say it depends but I assume not everyone washes on holiday. I only did it regularly when DD was small and I didn't have space to bring 3 outfits per day.
We have enough to cover two weeks.

We had several properties in Germany/Austria where there was a communal washing machine available or if the owner lives in the same building, we could use theirs. But that was always paid extra.

I wouldn't count on laundrettes, google the area, they are not that common as in the UK.

Holiday apartment blocks usually have a communal laundrette in the basement, but you can always ask the host on airbnb, vrbo, booking.com etc. before booking. Some apartments have washing machines installed, but as holiday apartments tend to have small kitchens and bathrooms and no utility room, these are less common. Public laundrettes hardly exist at all in the Austrian Alps.

Most communal laundrettes either take cash or use tokens (available from the janitor (Hausmeister))
