Where to book train journey from UK city to DLP?

BeanCounterBabe · 17/02/2023 11:34

We usually drive to France but planning on getting Eurostar with a connection to DLP for October half term. We live minimum 3 hours from London. We would have driven and parked in Kent and the Eurostar there but no longer possible. Where is the best place to book the whole journey and hwo far i advance are the fares released?

TIA

Best bet is to look at the website the man in seat 61. Everything to do with booking trains just about any where in the world is on there.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 18/02/2023 12:31

No help but where/what is DLP? And do I want to go there? 😁

CharlotteStreetW1 · 18/02/2023 12:32

More helpful: where are you travelling from? Could you get train to St Pancras or King's Cross to connect with Eurostar?

BeanCounterBabe · 18/02/2023 16:42

DLP = Disneyland Paris. We’ll be travelling into Paddington. I’m concerned that if I book the train to London separately it will be our problem if there is a delay. Assumed if I can book the whole trip through an agent they would ensure a later train if there is a delay and we miss a connection?

I’d just drive it’s much less hassle , especially since they stopped going from Ebbsfleet / Ashford .

BeanCounterBabe · 18/02/2023 16:56

Floralnomad We usually drive to France but it’s a long drive for us. We’re in the South West. Last year our vehicle broke down and it was a massive headache so fancied a change this year. We’d also have to find accommodation with parking. Might be easier to stay in London the night before to ensure we get our Eurostar train.

That’s a better idea , train up the day before , nice meal out and maybe a show then get the early train the next day .

Unicorn2022 · 18/02/2023 17:13

I think I'd stay in London the night before and get tickets to Frozen or Lion King, make it part of the holiday.

redspottedmug · 18/02/2023 17:48

Look at seat61. There's an add on ticket from regional station to St Pancras, which requires you to pick a specific station name for St Pancras. www.seat61.com/european-travel-from-uk-regions.htm

CharlotteStreetW1 · 18/02/2023 20:37

DLP = Disneyland Paris.

Of course 🤦‍♀️

And no I don't (can you tell I don’t have children 😂).

Attictroll · 18/02/2023 21:45

Not dlp but we have done o few big European train trips and use train line.eu I was told ages ago if you do it as one journey there you don't have to rebuy if there are delays

QueenMabs · 18/02/2023 23:36

Three a quite a few Disney YouTubers who do this and they stay over in London the night before and get an early train to dlp. Great idea about frozen or lion king or even just a visit to the Disney store. Have a look on You tube.

The direct service is finishing in June and you will need to change in Lille I think.

Try the Eurostar business class too for better service, food and lounge access etc. although not sure how far Lille is?

Coning back you will need a ticket to you final destination from dlp.

Orchidflower1 · 19/02/2023 06:33

Do they still do shuttle buses from the airport? Have you thought about flying from a regional airport to you ( Bristol? ) and getting the bus to dlp. Are you staying at a Disney hotel?

doadeer · 19/02/2023 06:40

I would stay in London night before then get the eurostar, break up the journey and no rushing

Clymene · 19/02/2023 06:45

I would definitely go up the night before. The stress isn't worth it.

Username24680 · 19/02/2023 06:49

Definitely stay in London the night before if you can 😊 we stayed at a Travelodge near St Pancras last time and it was really handy.
It’s been a few years since we’ve been so not sure if the travel set up is still the same. I’m sure there was 1 Eurostar per day that went direct to DLP but it arrived early afternoon. We opted for the Eurostar around 6am and changed at Lille (very easy!) which got us to the parks a good few hours earlier than the direct one would have.

ILoveASpreadsheet · 19/02/2023 06:56

We’ve gone from St Pancras to DLP directly and also via Gare du Nord. We went via GdN because the price difference was massive. We then used this blog for the details of getting from GdN to DLP www.travellingwithnikki.com/2014/01/gare-du-nord-to-disneyland-paris-by-rer/ it adds about 45 minutes to an hour to the journey. Coming back I always get the DLP train to St Pancras.

tribpot · 19/02/2023 07:00

You'll find the details on Seat 61 but there is a destination called London CIV which gives you in effect a through-ticket with your Eurostar journey, so you have protection if your first train is late in.

You have to buy the London CIV ticket in person at a station, not online. I decided against it last summer in favour of staying overnight in London instead. My concern was, just because they have to put you on the next available Eurostar, what if there are no spaces? The trains were booked solid.

WorriedMillie · 19/02/2023 07:04

We stayed over near St Pancras the night before, there’s a premier inn nearby with family rooms, if required. Note that Eurostar are stopping the direct service to Disney at some point, so
you’d have to change at Lille. Plus we wished we’d booked another night in London upon arrival home, as travelling home the same day made it a long day! (I don’t think we left Paris until 4pm)

BarbaraofSeville · 19/02/2023 07:04

I think if you're 3 hours from London, I'd either look at the London International CIV tickets so you don't worry about losing your Eurostar ticket if there's a problem with your first journey (strikes, weather, cancellations due to staff shortages) or just fly and get a local train.

I'm all for using the train where it's a practical cost effective option, but why make life hard for yourself by turning a 2 hour flight into a 2 day expedition at two/three times the cost?

BeanCounterBabe · 19/02/2023 10:43

Thanks for all the replies. Flights are over £1,000 Bristol to Paris without luggage or booking seats. It’s 2 hours to the airport as well so still not super convenient. Eurostar London to Paris under £500. We’re staying off DLP site with two days in parks and two days in Paris. Not going to parks on travelling days so we can be flexible with travel times. I’ll look into some of the suggestions here including the CIV tickets.
