Mosel valley Germany August

Following on from an interesting thread on here a while back on visiting Germany with teenagers I wondered if anyone might have advice for planning our trip this summer.
Hoping to spend 7-10 days in the Mosel valley area this summer (me, DH and DD 15) Hoping to tour around the area, visit some castles/vineyards/small towns etc. Currently looking at a range of accommodations from pods/yurts on campsites to AirB&B/Vrbo type places but as I am totally unfamiliar with the area I feel like I don’t know where to start. Will be flying then hiring a car. Anyone done anything similar with experiences to share? What do I need to know?

We went for six nights (5 days). It gave us enough time to explore the small towns, such as Beilstein (my favourite) and Ediger-Eller, hike through the wineries to some incredible viewpoints, visit the castles we wanted to see and take some day trips to places such as Burg Eltz. We camped in Ediger-Eller, but I know that Cochem is a popular base. However, that inevitably means higher prices and less availability. We couldn’t find anything available within our budget, hence the camping.
We did, however, stop en route in Cochem and stocked up on groceries and necessities as most of the shops are bigger and have a better range!

thank you, have been looking at those and was wondering if they may be really busy. Hmm. Wasn’t planning on camping but not ruling anything in or out at the moment.

We have gone many times. Staying in Krov with family on the moselle. Lots of self catering accommodation and small hotels. Great pools in the village of Krov. Other areas to look at are Bernkastel, Urzig. Cochem is great but we tended to do day trips to it
landal are chalet holiday accommodation v reasonable also. Boat trips on the river v popular. Its a really relaxing holiday.

We stayed a week at the Landal Sonnenberg park in a chalet and did trips to the Mosel villages and Trier.

Brilliant, thank you. How did you find the Landal sites? Been to one in the UK which was ok but nothing special…

We love this area but I am biased as I spent a lot of time there as a child.
We stayed at the Landal park years ago and enjoyed it. Chalet was basic when we were there but had everything we needed.
Have camped in Ediger-Eller and have also rented an apartment in Bernkastel-Kues. We stayed the Kues side so had the view to Bernkastel.
Apartment was fantastic and we found it on Booking.com (in fact we are renting it again this September).
There are a lot of choices to do there and you can make it as relaxing or busy as you want. Your DD might enjoy a visit to Phantasialand. Has one of the best water rides there.

We stayed in Ernst about 5km outside of Cochem — was walkable, but we also got a 'gastkarte' which was free public transport in the whole are — we did a day trip to Koblenz with it. We walked/hiked to Beilstein on one day, the ruined castle there is meant to be sleeping beauty's. There's lots of hiking around, some of it quite hairy as it's a very steep sided river valley.

I have friends who own a vineyard in Lieser, which is a bit further along, they had a guesthouse too 😉 and that's just across the river from Bernkastlel Kues which is a very pretty — if touristy— half timbered town.

Burg Eltz as mentioned above is not to be missed.

It's a lovely part of the world!

Sorry for strike through, too many hyphens.....

I'm aware that this is an old thread, but can anyone give me an idea of September weather in this area? Thanks.
