Thinking about the Maldives for a holiday. Looking at 10/14 nights. Budget £10/£20k

Do you lovely people have any recommendations who to book with. What island to stay?

All tips and hints welcome.

Kuoni
Look at Shangri La Vilingilli
Some lovely accommodation and been good enough for celebs (not Z listers) and royalty.

Sparklesz · 12/02/2023 01:03

Oh sounds fancy. Will have a look. Thank you @PatsyJStone

Many other islands as well, Kuoni have a good selection. Villingilli was the best I've been to and we weren't in the best accommodation, it was wonderful. Extremely private if you want. With your budget you could do something very private and/or do business or first class. Lucky you!

Family or couple?
Do you want to be able to do lots of daily snorkelling ie you want a “house reef” or not that important ?
Do you dive?
Do you want a bigger/livelier resort with many restaurants, bars, or a quieter place?
Budget….??? Maldives resorts range from £200 a night to £10000 a night! So this is the main determinant really.
Also what season - Dec to March is a lot pricier

Tripadvisor Maldives forum and Facebook Maldives Holidaymakers group give good advice but will need to know these things

minipie · 12/02/2023 12:12

sorry just saw you said the budget! Yes that’s a good budget

Speak to Simply Maldives, Purely Maldives, or Magic of Maldives - they know their onions!

Sparklesz · 12/02/2023 14:23

Thank you @minipie it would be for two adults and a young teen. We would be looking to go September next year. We wouldn't want anywhere to loud or lively.

Dh is not keen on a sea plane at all. We haven't been out of the UK since 2018. Cancelled our holiday in 2020 for obvious reasons.

Thank you @PatsyJStone will look into those places.

For Shangri La it's a domestic internal flight (not sea plane) then a ten minute boat. Worth it once you are there. We didn't leave our room for the first three days, except to eat. Small pool, second lounge room separate, I could go on but have a look yourself.
You would be in something different with a third person maybe beach villa with small pool.

kuoni

maafushivaru

Ok, no seaplane narrows it down a lot so that will make decisions easier!

Baros could be a good option. It’s quite couply but does allow older kids and teenagers. Quite luxurious, good house reef for snorkelling, no seaplane.

If you want bigger / more lively look at Kuramathi. Lots of restaurants. Can get there by seaplane or by speedboat (but boat takes an hour and not ideal in rough weather). Or Bandos which is closer, a very short speedboat ride from Male.

Como Cocoa might also be worth a look - lovely resort but honeymooney. Or Velassaru or Veligandu if you’re not bothered about a house reef for snorkelling.

There’s the Hard Rock and resorts around it - these are on man made islands and personally that’s not my cup of tea (no reef, environmentally dubious) but they do have more activities.

minipie · 12/02/2023 15:07

Oh if your DH is ok with a domestic flight plus boat then that opens up more options. Ayada for example would be a good option. Or Como Maalifushi but that’s definitely the pricey end of things.

minipie · 12/02/2023 15:07

Nowhere will be very loud or lively.

ItBeFivePotatoesHigh · 12/02/2023 15:08

Kandolhu was the most stunning place I stayed in the Maldves - amazing food too. It is a seaplane ride though.

Agree....Kandolhu is a beautiful gem of an island -lucky to have been twice and would return in a heartbeat! ....but feel maybe not right Island for a teen
believe Kuramathi would be a good choice

Thanks everyone, working my way through all of your suggestions. We have been watching YouTube videos and everywhere just looks amazing. The cheapest prices are coming from Tui.

@Sparklesz Maldives peak season is from Dec - Apr. So ocean is a lot calmer (less current) which makes perfect weather for diving. Maldives is normally hot through out year. If you want to save money then May, June, Sep, Oct & Nov is best months.

Please have a look top recommended resorts below :

Lux South Ari Atoll Maldives
Atmosphere Kanifushi
Lily Beach Maldives
Atmosphere VARU
Sun Siyam Iru Fushi
Constance Moofushi
and plenty more..

Hope that helps .

HarrietStyles · 05/07/2023 16:44

Soneva Fushi is the most stunning place I have been to on the planet. Would be top end of your budget.

ThePuma · 05/07/2023 19:04

Somebody already mentioned Baros. I would second that.

SpainToday · 05/07/2023 19:55

My travel agent wouldn’t accept a September booking for the Maldives from us! Check out the rainfall
