To double buggy or not?

We don't currently use a double buggy as we really have no reason to. We have a newborn and a 3 year old.

We are going abroad in May when newborn will be 17 weeks and toddler 3.5. I am wondering whether a double buggy would save us some stress? We took a pushchair for toddler on our last holiday in August, comes in handy at the airport, for naps during the day and generally getting out and about. We don't tend to be out late and she didn't nap in the pushchair of an evening.

Due to being on Mat Leave, we don't expect to be doing much on this holiday, more of a pool/beach holiday than we would normally have, and toddler much loves both the pool and beach so I suspect will be happy with this. She's also a confident walker, and if it did become a problem, she could go in the pushchair and baby in a sling/carrier?

Has anyone else travelled abroad with similar age children and used a double? Have you gone without? How was it? If you used one, can you recommend one?

Not quite answering your question as I had two the same age but I never took the double on holiday - too big and bulky. We took two strollers instead. In your situation I'd say take a single mostly for use by the baby and as you say if you do need it for toddler you can carry baby that time.

My daughter got one of these off Facebook

Packs really small, can wear it like a backpack when folded.

Can you hire one from the hotel on days when you need it? Day trips etc. a single buggy will be much easier

I have a 3.5 year old and I'm not taking one for him when we go away. On the days I need one I plan on hiring one

@moleeye excellent shout! There's a hire company that do a double for €50 for the week, delivered to the hotel. We could probably just take the sling for baby for the airport and let toddler walk, as we have done in the past when we've checked in the pushchair.
