Canary Islands

I am thinking either Fuertaventura or Lanzarote because apparently the weather is slightly better on those islands but there are just so many hotels / resorts to choose from and I have no knowledge of either place.

It'll be me, DP, my grown up son and my 4 year old during Easter break. We want to go full board / all inclusive - I'd consider half board as long as there are restaurants nearby.

We would like it to be child friendly but I'd also prefer to avoid a lot of pissed up Brits if possible. Ideally close to a beach.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

If you’re not set on a place, I would recommend Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria, particularly the hotels down by the marina. Lovely views, lots of good restaurants nearby and a small beach - the walk to the bigger, more touristy beach is around 30 minutes which we usually do once or twice as our day out.
There are some lovely boat trips and a ferry which takes you to a little market town called Mogan which is another great day out.

Thanks. I'll check it out.

I think Playa Blanca would probably suit your requirements. It’s a resort town, so it has good facilities and a great beach but it isn’t party-central like Puerto del Carmen and it has more character than Costa Teguise. It has a beautiful promenade, plenty of restaurants, and not many British or Irish bars that I noticed.

@Fivemoreminutes1 that's really helpful, thanks!

We stayed at Playa Flamingo, it's just a bit further along than Playa Blanca which was too touristy and 'Brits abroad' for us (you can walk the promenade between the two). We stayed in the Tui Blue which had a lovely beach side restaurant and we thought the beach was nicer. It's very quiet though, no bars, not many restaurants, only a couple of shops (that do sell pretty much everything you might need though).

I used to walk past that hotel everyday on my walk about, the location was great.

We stayed at the rubicon palace which was lovely, just a little bit far out for me but I enjoyed the walks.

How long would it take to walk to a town / busier part? I'm interested in full board / AI just so we have some certainty with cost but we would likely eat out occasionally - especially as the reviews of AI food seems to be pretty bad!

We stayed at tui magic life which had guests from across Europe, had a kids club, sports and ai 4 different restaurants included in the price. Transfer from airport was ok time wise and there was a car hire desk in the hotel which we used to book a car to explore the island one day, for your adult son they ran daily trips surfing, mountain biking and snorkelling at extra cost

ProseccoOnIce · 05/02/2023 12:31

I've just booked for Lanzarote, Playa Blanca at Tropical island resort at Easter - there is a water park nearby & you can get the ferry over to Fuerteventura.

Slight walk in to town but I prefer that.

Managed to get a free child place on Jet2

Excluded Costa Teguise as it's apparently windy.

Thanks very much for all of these hotel names!

Sandos in Playa Blanca Lanzarote, or Bahia Principe in Tenerife both good. Go at least 4 star for all inclusive.

userxx · 05/02/2023 14:42

@kirinm I think it was about a 20 minute walk from flamingo beach to the busier bit, maybe a bit less. It's a lovely walk along the promenade.

whoruntheworldgirls · 05/02/2023 14:56

I’ve had a few people recommend Playa Blanca Lanzarote so we’ve booked for May HT at the Iberostar

motherofkevinnotperry · 05/02/2023 15:01

We're going to Playa Blanca in a couple of weeks. Not been but comes well recommended for family holidays from friends and family who've also been.

fairtrauchled · 05/02/2023 15:04

Playa Blanca is lovely. We've stayed at the Sandos Papagayo all inclusive and enjoyed it although it is at the far end of the promenade and quite a walk into the centre.Hotel Volcan is lovely too and right next to the marina although they don't do all inclusive. There are several restaurants at the marina .

TheFairyCaravan · 05/02/2023 15:07

We’ve been to Tui Magic Life in Fuerteventura, too. It’s a beautiful hotel, the food was really nice and there’s lots to do for both adults and children alike.

Lanzarote is horrible imo. You couldn’t pay me to go back.

rookiemere · 05/02/2023 15:56

Seaside Los Jameos in Lanzarote may suit. Excellent food, very child friendly and nice surroundings.

rookiemere · 05/02/2023 17:09

I thought Lanzarote was quite pleasant. DH bought a multi ticket to 6 attractions including the Volcanic park and a cactus garden and we hired a car ( can be delivered to the front of the hotel and left there when your rental is finished) and drove round a bit.

We usually go to Costa Adeje Tenerife and found Lanzarote a good bit cheaper for most things.

I mean it's not Tuscany, but then Tuscany is unlikely to be warm enough at Easter.
