We will take both cash and card but what is accepted more widely? Is it better to take a lot of cash?

I was in Iceland last weekend, did not take any cash with me at all, used card for everything. Enjoy, hope you get to see the lights as we did not

No, it's pretty much cashless. I would definitely not bother getting ISK as I believe it is classed by UK banks as an 'exotic currency', which means it can be a pain to get hold of. There's no point.

Even a few years ago when I went it was almost completely cashless. I think I used cash about twice over a 2 week trip. If you are going somewhere remote there’s no harm to take out a small amount of cash from an ATM on arrival otherwise I wouldn’t bother at all.

I didn't take any cash. Was fine.

Perfect, thanks! We won't take any cash

We went a couple of weeks ago.

We took about £50 worth of ISK in cash but didn’t use it all. We needed it for the bus, but nothing else. Everything else was card/Apple Pay.
