hi - just wanted some advice on Yellow fever vaccines - I'm getting really conflicted advice on whether they need it before our holiday - some sites say its necessary, some say its more optional.

has anyone had any issues with side effects before?

my youngest is 2 so a bit apprehensive..

thanks

Where are you going?
We went to Kenya and Tanzania and needed it for one of them. You had to show your certificate on arrival so it was obligatory.
If it's just recommended then you should really discuss this with a health professional.
Having said that my children (18 & 16) have been vaccinated for pretty much everything as we travel a lot.

Phone whoever does the vaccines and they will tell you, I work with vaccinations however don’t do travel so can’t help you but they have to do a specific course and are very knowledgeable re the vaccines required for different areas and who is eligible etc

Different vaccine, but I got my dc vaccinated, before going when he was around 2.
It wasn't necessary, but it was recommended.
It's up to you, right? But it's no brainer, tbh. Think about if a child getting infected, and the difference between been vaccinated or not. That makes a big difference. But if you want to take a risk, it's up to you too.

They don't ask you to have the yellow fever vaccine and it's only on the list of ones you may consider if going to a high risk area.

OP, we took our 2 yo to India and it's mandatory there, we had to show the vax certificate at the airport security.

He was feverish and unhappy for a couple of days afterwards, nursery sent him home as Calpol wasn't reducing the temperature. It's not nothing!

Are there current outbreaks where you are going? How long will you be there?

If you look for Yellow Fever Centres near you they will be able to advise. She can have it at 2 if she needs it. (And there are no other contra-indications).
