How to avoid food related illness abroad?

3/6 of our holidays over the last few years and one of our family has come down with sickness and diarrhoea on holiday 😩
I don't know what we are doing wrong! 🤣
So what tips do you follow when abroad (especially all inclusive which we will be going on) that help avoid any nasty tummy bugs or E. coli which I'm paranoid about as I have health anxiety 🤦🏻‍♀️

Only go all inclusive if that includes regular table service restaurants, any buffets are just asking for food poisoning. Food just made and left out for hours.

Dont eat ice cream if it’s not from a proper ice cream parlour or in a packet. Ice cream at buffets has been frozen, slightly defrosted, refrozen so many times it’s not great. Basic beach shack type places get the kids ice cream or lollies in packets

If you do have to eat from buffet breakfast, pick the made to order omelettes, breads. Avoid the fried eggs already bulk made in tray, or yogurt, or anything milky.

When you sit down to eat your plate full of AI pick n mix sanitise your hands with hand sanitiser before you start eating/buttering your roll etc. You will have been touching multiple serving tools and the drinks dispenser which has been touched by many people before you, many of whom did not wash their hands when leaving the toilet when we were on holiday two months ago 🤢

Yes, where are you going to be so ill all the time?
The only time I've definitely had food related stomach issues was Thailand as a backpacker.
Before I go anywhere, I check if the water is ok (last 3 years, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Belgium so all ok)

Yep this.

We've been AI lots of times and have never been ill. And neither has anyone I know! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Only time I've been ill abroad was on honeymoon and we were in Indonesia.

Never been ill from AI food, do check reviews before go and make sure its good and also use hand sanitiser before eating.

Also see some people doing things like sit in sun drinking endless fizzy drinks/alcoholic drinks and eating chips and unlimited ice cream and then they get sick and it seems they left common sense at home.
