Jet2 boarding process

We are flying to Tenerife in March with a 4 year old and 5 month old. Does Jet2 board young families first?

I haven’t paid extra to “guarantee my hand luggage in the cabin” as I assumed we would be boarding early - but not sure if I am assuming correctly!

Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure they don't board families with young children first. I have used jet 2 many times and I don't recall that ever happening but I could be wrong. I didn't know that was even a thing to be honest with any airline xx

Sometimes they do.

If you want your hand luggage in the cabin, I’d guarantee it; though. It doesn’t really matter if you board early - if enough people have paid to guarantee their luggage is with them, you could be the first person on board and still have your luggage in the hold.

Why would they board young families first? No, if you want to guarantee all of your cabin bags with you you need to pay. That said, if a bag fits under the seat in front you'll be able to carry that on regardless.

When we flew with Jet2 in October they only boarded families first who had taken a pram to the boarding gate.
We were travelling with friends and we have children the same age, but they took their pram and had our baby in a carrier and they wouldn't let us board together, our friends boarded first.

Not many budget airlines do unless you've paid for priority boarding, or they have only a couple of families boarding.

DD and I flew with them to Spain last year and they had a different process at either end.

In the UK it was from the front, from Spain it was from the back which worked well because you weren't trying to get past people storing their luggage. Neither let families board first.

Both ways there were plenty of hand baggage space because a lot of people were on Jet2 holidays so had a checked bag included.

Ryanair do, it's one of the few good things about them!

There's usually plenty of cabin space for luggage on Jet2 flights, especially somewhere like Tenerife because a lot of people are on package, which includes a hold case in the basic price, so tend to take this and a small cabin bag - you don't get so many people getting on the plane with a trolley case like you do where people try to do hand luggage only.

Jet 2 board special assistance first then it goes by Seats. On your boarding pass there will be a letter a b or c and they board a first then b then c. We have flew with them and never had an issue with baggage.

poppym12 · 18/01/2023 09:49

Jet2 board assisted travellers first then the rest of the plane are split into 3 boarding groups, ABC. Your group will be shown on your boarding pass. It's usually group c (rear section) or group b (middle section) boarded first. Going from UK to Tenerife I've not seen families with children boarded first but this has happened at Tenerife airport.

Does your hand luggage fit under the seat? Mine does and I've never paid for guaranteed cabin luggage. Usually as you approach the check in desk they will put a yellow tag around your bag handles to say that it can go under the seat in front. Obviously this wouldn't work for those small cases with wheels but normal bags should fit.

Whenever I’ve went with Jet2 they’ve always called those who need extra time to board early. Typically only those with disability aids and buggies come forward. Wouldn’t worry too much about bag though as they don’t do it based on the queue, they usually come around the gate with the tags. I’ve even had them tag my bags at the check in desk to guarantee cabin.

Thanks everyone for your replies. We were frequent travellers pre-COVID and pre-kids but I’m aware that airline processes may have changed and I last flew with Jet2 about 10 years ago.

The sometimes do , especially with children under 5

Flown with them twice in the last year.
No special treatment unless wheelchair.
They boarded in groups. Your boarding card will have A,B or C on it.
Jet2 give generous luggage allowance so mlost people don't drag suitcases into the cabin.
My best advice would be book a seat for the baby. They have to sit on your lap for take off but you get that precious bit of extra space.

Lovetotravel123 · 09/03/2023 16:14

The advantage of boarding later is less time in the plane.

BellaVita · 09/03/2023 16:38

We have just recently been to Tenerife with Jet2. There were 6 of us plus a nine week old baby. I paid for fast track and guaranteed cabin luggage. We did not get priority boarding, had to queue like everyone else. Only wheelchair passengers were a priority.

BellaVita · 09/03/2023 16:40

Our baby was in a pram which we left at the bottom of the stairs with a car seat.

MrsDrambuie · 11/03/2023 15:40

So we have recently returned from our holiday and this is what happened:

  • outbound - Jet2 boarded wheelchairs and families with young children first;
  • inbound - no mention of anyone requiring any special assistance, just passengers in zone B first (the middle of the plane).

Overall I was pleased with Jet2 service. Their twilight check in process worked well for us on the outbound trip.
