Copenhagen short break in Feb

With an 8yo and a 13yo. Too cold? Too boring? Too expensive once there?

I’ve heard and read so many conflicting opinions🤷🏻‍♀️. Has anyone got recent-ish experience?

Alternatively, if anyone has a recommendation for short city break ideas for half term would be welcome. We initially planned to go to Berlin but I know someone who lived there and they said Feb is just too cold to really enjoy it, so we changed our plans.

Yes, too cold, wet and grey. Also, Tivoli doesn’t open until the end of March each year. If you’re not bothered about sightseeing, then Lalandia Billund is a great place to stay in the winter and you could do a trip to the Lego House.

Thanks @Fivemoreminutes1 , I think we need to rethink our plans. Just looking for a cheap (ish) change of scenery for a couple of nights but it sounds like that's not it.

I think Copenhagen is great at any time of year. Take them to Experimentarium (the best science museum anywhere) and to museums like Glyptotek. Rides along the harbour on the bus-boat and wandering around pretty streets are also good.

it will probably be cold and overcast, but there are lots of cafes that have hot chocolate on every street corner.

@parietal From what I've read I think the food and drink costs would make that trip more expensive than we'd like. I'm just looking for a couple of nights somewhere else so trying to keep costs down.

Looking at Madrid, Brussels or Lisbon now but am starting to think that, in typical fashion, we've left it a bit late...

Perhaps cold (although much of Europe was 15 degrees or more over New Year so who really knows anymore?) but absolutely not boring!

DH and I spent a week in Copenhagen a couple of years ago and still had stuff we wanted to do that we couldn't squeeze in.

Expense is what you make it, we had a hotel deal with a fantastic breakfast and we mostly had Pølse from street vendors for lunch. For dinner there's so much choice it's easy to find something reasonable.

The experimentarium is fab; we went even without kids and had a blast 😂

The only thing I think would be a shame with teens is if Tivoli is closed. It's such a big part of Copenhagen being right in the city and a fab place to visit even if you're not 'rides' people.

Have you thought about Palma? Majorca itself is off-season this time of year so you may get good deals, and it's a fabulous city to explore.

Thank you! Yes, I think with Tivoli closed until the end of March, a different time of year would suit us better. We might plan that for spring next year.

I've not considered Palma, we've been pre-kids and loved it but no idea if there's anything for them there so will check it out.

Lisbon is a good shout. Copenhagen isn’t at its best that time and it’s a shame to go when Tivoli is closed.

Bobbybobbins · 13/01/2023 20:45

Agree that it's very cold then and would be better later in the year.

I've been to Copenhagen in December, January and late February. I usually cope with cold ok but this was a special variety of cold because it was also damp. The kind of cold that chills you to the bone unless you wear proper waterproof winter gear. I noticed lots of people had ankle length coats to keep the cold out.

How about South of France on the TGV?
