Eurocamps holidays

Hi just wondering if there are any recent experiences of the eurocamp holidays in France and The Netherlands? We are keen for a family holiday abroad but the all inclusive package holiday we'd like is out of reach financially so we're looking to keep costs down 😀

We've done several eurocamps over the years I'm both locations.
We'd definitely recommend - some are more basic than others, but we're quite low maintenance.

HyggeTygge · 09/01/2023 19:09

Interested in hearing about good sites in France where you don't need your own tent....?

TolkiensFallow · 09/01/2023 19:12

Oooh I keep eyeing them up! Fancy the Netherlands

Ah thank you - we have been looking at this one-

La Croix du Vieux Pont
Berny-Rivière, Paris

And

Camping 't Hop
Wijckel, Friesland, Netherlands

Hoping fellow Mumsnetters may be able to give an objective view

Done various Eurocamp holidays. Be aware that car hire costs have risen hugely. As well as food so if you have kids that really use the AI free drinks etc do make sure you factor those costs in.

There are some sites near airports so you can avoid hiring a car - less choice though obviously.

lking679 · 09/01/2023 19:18

I wondered if there was much English at the French camps?

PixiePirate · 09/01/2023 19:20

Highly recommended La Croix du Vieux Pont near Paris and De Schatberg in Holland. We’ve done lots of Eurocamp sites and have enjoyed all of them but those are our faves, along with Camping Fabulous near Rome.

How old are the children?

Do you have a region in mind? Or general preferences? Pre kids, we loved Château Lez Eaux Campsite in Normandy.

If anyone is looking for a site on Netherlands with kids, beekse Bergen is great - although getting pricey if you're limited to school holidays.

fruitpastille · 09/01/2023 19:29

Not eurocamp but we've enjoyed Huttopia sites such as Rille. There are tents or cabins in a forest setting with pool and pizza restaurant. Lots of dutch as well as british and french. A bit quieter so it depends what you are looking for.

poorbuthappy · 09/01/2023 19:30

Eurocamp tend to be more expensive. If you Google campsites in France you'll get a list as long as your arm and you can filter for whatever your needs are. We've had some fab holidays!

Kids are 3 year old boy and 11 year old girl. She's keen on the one near Paris as she's got her heart set on a day trip to Paris but we're yet to suss out travel into Paris. We'd rather not hire a car so want a park local to the airport or ferry port; or with good taxi links

I recall on other threads like this posters mentioning the sites are often shared by Eurocamp and it’s competitors.

Yello got a mention a few times I think.
Dont know if they’re still going post pandemic

we’ve always driven our own car (except Rome, where we hired one at the airport). I’m not sure them at I’ve been to any close enough to the airport to recommend tbh. I wonder if some of the Spanish sites could be a good shout.

We caught the train into Paris when we stayed at the Berny Rivière site the last time we went but we still had to drive to the train station and the train cost us well over £100 even though it’s relatively close. It’s fairly close to Euro Disney too if you’re Disney fans.

PixiePirate · 09/01/2023 19:38

*any that I’ve been to

We stayed in a French Eurocamp (Domaine de Chalain in the Jura region) last summer and had a great time. We booked a cabin (with AC) for maximum comfort. It's set on a lake, so lovely scenery and plenty of water-related stuff to do. I think you would definitely need a car though. We drove from NW England and took the tunnel, so had our own car.

Got primary aged kids - would like somewhere near a beach if possible, but not essential. Haven't decided if to fly/train/ferry....! Might go crazy and go to the South of France but it seems a long way.

MissAmbrosia · 09/01/2023 21:19

Look at european Centerparcs, Roompot.com and Landal.com as an alternative, particularly if NL is a possibility. Also Duinrell. We've done Eurocamp/Canvas in the Ardeche/Dordogne/Jura/Languedoc also Pierre et Vacances and gites complexes galore. Eurocamp is not cheap anymore! Especially when you want something with aircon and deck and not decrepid. But they are great for family holidays imho.

Off topic but Camping Fabulous is indeed fabulous ☺️

Hi Eileen,
Great recommendation! How many Eurocamp holidays have you been on? When did you start going on them?

Yelloh are still going, I haven't used them but looked at the sites on line , cheaper than eurocamp and also look at Sandaya again cheaper the EC.

We have been on lots, always driving even to Lake Garda. In France favourites would be La Garangeoire in the Vendee and St Avit Loisirs in the Dordogne. For the latter if driving you could break your journey to take in Paris.
