Cruising with a baby

We are used to cruising every year (me, hubby and our 13 year old). Due baby in march and I'm looking at a cruise for October, has anyone done it with a baby? I'm quite confident about it.... hubby a bit more worried 😂 x

It’s definitely the easiest holiday I went on with my LOs! The only tricky bit was the flight!

Stephanie226 · 09/01/2023 08:03

Well we won't have a flight as we drive to the port 😁 x

Which cruise line are you thinking of going with?

We've done 8 royal Caribbean cruises and even got married on one of them last year but the only one fitting in with our dates is MSC virtuosa

I’m hijacking a little… hope you don’t mind, I’m tempted by an RC cruise for next year, but keep having random dreams of one of the children falling overboard. I’m sure this is entirely irrational. Could you please tell me I’m being ridiculous?

also not specifically cruising but generally pre walking babies are awesome travel companions

I think MSC is one of the best for babies and toddlers.

@Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday

Small children don't fall overboard on cruise ships. Does not happen. These ships are built to prevent anyone from falling overboard. You can't just fall over. The only people who go overboard are those who jump, are pushed, or get drunk or are stupid and climb on the rail. The only children I would worry about are teens. That is the age where kids tend to do stupid things and can overcome the protections. The little children even if they do something stupid are not going to be able to go over the railings. Of course if you take small children on board you want to supervise the children just like you would anywhere you take them.

I’ve never been on a cruise, but I guess you wouldn’t want to leave baby alone in a cabin at any point, so wouldn’t it be rather restrictive with the naps and long hours of sleep at night needing you to retreat to your cabin frequently for long periods? You’d miss the evening entertainment etc which I gather is a big part of cruises.

So they have babysitters on board? I’ve never been on a cruise, but can’t imagine going to sit in a cabin from 1930-0730 every other day (assuming you’d take babysitting turns with your partner). We hire a house or apartment and eat out and sightsee during the day, then cook in at night with a wine on the balcony once the little one is in bed.

Royal Caribbean are fab!! Some cruise lines don't let kids in the pool who aren't toilet trained so something to bare in mind x.

With regards to being in cabin more, I'm thinking baby is going to nap in pram etc just as they would at a hotel holiday like my son did when he was little. We aren't too fussed about being out all evening at the entertainment, however if baby needs to sleep then they absolutely can. Thanks for everyone's input xx
