Low mobility holidays

Hi I’d love to know if anyone has been on any holidays (UK or abroad) that were good for people with low mobility? Main issue is can’t walk far and fatigue. Would love to take my DC to places but worried about them being hilly, no suitable transport etc. need to be so central that things are very very close to walk to, or on very easy transport links. Thanks!

Might be very obvious, but Center Parcs might fit the bill. Everything is on site and you can hire electric mobility scooters to get you round.

How old are your DC? What interests do you have? Do you want swimming facilities etc?

DC 7 and 12. I would like to do abroad city breaks for them really but lack
of Mobility is putting me off. They’re into history, facts, exploring rather than sports, swimming etc. CP is a good shout but the prices are ridiculous and I think we could get abroad for same price!

Even obvious suggestions are welcome, really wracking my brains to think of something fab for them that won’t kill me off!

Malaga!

Short flight, amazing views of mountain lakes before landing. Good airport if you request assistance.

Lovely and flat, good city centre hotels, accessible restaurants, cathedral (with ramps), Roman ruins - amphitheatre with accessible parts (not all), food market (all flat), harbour, beach front promenade, decent shopping. Have tips for restaurants and rooftop bar with lift access for amazing views.

Krakow is very cheap, mostly flat and the city centre relatively compact and easy to navigate. I have RA and have been several times, it's got plenty of cafes/bars for taking breaks etc. You can even take a mobility scooter on the plane providing you purchase on that meets the criteria. Do you drive? We flew into Pisa and hired a car then started at park Albatross in Tuscany, Italy. Perfect base with pools and near a beach, lovely restaurants and a great shop and you can drive to Pisa for the day ( again very compact so easy to have lots of breaks and scooter friendly). They also arrange coach trips from the reception. We went to Paris and bought a two day pass for the "hop on hop off " bus. That way they got to see all the sights but we only stopped at the places they really wanted to see. Not scooter friendly but again, lots of opportunity to stop for breaks.

Great suggestions thank you, I will look at them all! I am not good with a scooter but am thinking of buying a folding wheelchair for emergency use. Paris is one my DS would love to go to but I’m a bit wary of overdoing it! Thanks.

I've totally missed off my favourite holiday. Corfu. We stay at Christakis apartments in Sidari. The gp around the corner rents out mobility scooters for a very decent price. The town centre is the perfect distance away and there are several coach operators that do day trips all over the island . Lots of sights, boat trips, castles in the old town etc. and most coaches are happy to put the scooter in the luggage space. I've been 6 times as it's just so bloody cheap, easy and relaxed. You can even request a ground floor room next to the pool of you are disabled.

Thank you! I’m googling away…

I’m in the same boat as you, I have severe ME and if I push it I’ll end up in bed for the whole trip. My main advice would be to go somewhere nice and warm, so that at least if you don’t have the energy to really do anything some days, at least you can enjoy sitting in the sun!

I’m currently looking at Eurocamps, trying to find one that’s easy to get to. I’ll let you know if I find anything😅

Ah brilliant thank you. Eurocamps look like they may be hard work to me 😴 see my family don’t like sun and heat and package holidays aren’t really our thing but they may have to be….

What about manor and ash bury hotels?
everything all on one site

Phineyj · 09/01/2023 15:45

Unless Manor and Ashbury have changed, there was a heck of a lot of walking along dingy corridors within the site, though!

Twilightstarbright · 09/01/2023 20:39

I was going to say Malaga too.

what about a river cruise in Europe? They take you right to the centre of the city and you can pop back to the boat if you want to for a rest.
