How to make Haven more enjoyable?

We’re deciding between several Haven holidays or one holiday abroad this year. Haven is obviously loads cheaper and our then 4 year old absolutely loved it last year, but me and DP were bored to tears and desperate to get home within a few days.

We’d go to a much bigger park if we do wind up going this year and we’d have the car this time which will make things easier, but does anyone have some tips for enjoying it as adults?

I think if you don’t reallh enjoy it. And I don’t enjoy these caravan parks either, it’s not a great idea to plan to go back on the regular

We've had some lovely holidays at Haven type parks, but tended to use the park as a base for exploring the area rather than spending our days on-site. However, if you can afford it (even if it means one holiday rather than several) I'd go somewhere with more reliable weather. If your DD is 4, this will probably be your last chance to go abroad outside the school holidays, when the prices go up dramatically. With any UK holiday you run a risk of having a week of non-stop rain which makes a holiday with a small child far more difficult.

I'd never book Haven again their customer service is shocking

You definitely need to get off site regularly!
We have been to Rivieres Sands in Hayle twice.
We have done some nice trips on the train to Truro, Paradise Park, the beach. There is swimming and paid for activities on site. We'd be bored to sobs without going off regularly.

Thanks all. I’ve spent all my spare time today looking into eurocamps and have booked a week in Lalandia for the end of August. 1hr 40m flight from Manchester and then only a 9 minute drive to the resort! I’m very impressed, thanks so much to the PP’s who recommended it.

I think we’ll head to Hafan y mor for a short week in July as well since it’s relatively cheap - Will definitely be getting off site this time though! I’m so glad that others have said they’d also have hated it spending 10 days there without a car - I was a bit worried I was just a miserable sod😂

Some good advice here, thanks. I went to Presthaven last year so that could be a huge contributor to why we were so bored. There was only one restaurant on site which charged £24 for a not-very-tasty burger and chips, we couldn’t leave the site because we didn’t have the car, we went for 10 nights and the main park was under construction. It was also very grey and cloudy most days (july) and the only activities were a tiny softplay, a pool, a go kart track and an arcade. I’m looking at Hafan y mor and another large park in Yorkshire this year, I’m just dreading turning up and it’s as awful as last time!

Which Yorkshire one?
we’ve been to primrose valley which is really good, lots of activities, pools, restaurants etc. you can walk to the beach.
lots of places to go out and about to (Scarborough, filey, Bridlington, all with lots to do in them)
Reighton sands is also good but a bit smaller, it has the added bonus of a cafe/toilet down at the beach with a land train that takes you up and down the hilol

Been on a few Haven hols the past few years, we get the really cheap ones. There's usually 3 adults but for the past few we have had gd3. So Edinburgh was a good one, area a bit quiet, but on a bus route so you don't have to take the car and it's straight in to Edinburgh. Hunstanton in Norfolk is a favourite loads to do, beach and fun fair on doorstep and a beautiful sandy beach at Old hunstanton.
Haven Greenacres is where we are going in April, there's 2 sites, we went to the other a couple of years ago. This is a bigger site and lots for the little one to do and some nice places to visit.
I like to check out a couple of farm shops on the way down for some yummy stuff.
Hope you have a great time wherever you go.

OP when you get to Billund Airport walk over to the coach section and there is a free Legoland bus every half an hour or so. It's got bright flowers on it. It drops you right outside Lalandia as Legoland is next door.

Legoland is fairly expensive but if you download the Groupon.dk app and translate to English, you should be able to buy half price day tickets. There are a few other Lego related activities nearby too.
