Early Nov - Barcelona, Prague or Copenhagen

MagneticForceOfAWoman · 07/01/2023 18:17

Planning a long weekend away at the beginning of November for 5 girlfriends in Mid 40s

Options are Barcelona, Prague or Copenhagen

If these were your options, which would you go for and why?

Any top tips very welcome 🙏🏻

(BTW I’ve just seen live threads re Barcelona and Prague so will take a look there too)

Lisbon?

AnyFucker · 07/01/2023 18:33

Copenhagen is boring as hell

Barcelona or Prague will be lovely. If you want more chance of pleasantly warm weather go to Barcelona. That’s it really.

MilkshakesBringAllTheCoosToTheYard · 07/01/2023 18:39

Barcelona is ruined by the crowds in summer so I think that Nov would be a good time to go. The weather will be better than the UK too, which is always nice. OTOH I think Prague is pretty cheap? I'd probably cross Copenhagen off, as it is SO expensive.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 07/01/2023 19:08

Barcelona! It’s got something for everyone, and will be the warmest. Also got the best cuisine.

bert3400 · 07/01/2023 19:08

Barcelona any day ... especially as it will feel lovely and warm compared to the UK . If it was later in the year I would pick Prague to get a Christmas vibe and markets .

MagneticForceOfAWoman · 07/01/2023 19:56

All really helpful comments thank you.

Another thread was saying Prague isn’t so cheap these days. Agree timing means it’s too early for the Xmas market vibe in prague.

tbh my main worry about Copenhagen was £££ booze - it is unlikely to be a very dry weekend!

we were planning Barcelona earlier in the year but the dates wouldn’t work for us all, hence push back to November. Maybe that works better actually for crowds etc

Did Barcelona October half term and it was amazing. Hot (28 degrees) and still really busy but better than summer

food great
so much to do and see

one of my fav hols

incidentally, booked prague for July - never been before but looks beautiful . going Sunday to Thursday to avoid stag and hen dos

Prague is very beautiful in parts, but equally very tacky and touristy in others. If you stick to the older part of the city, it's stunning but we were harrassed non stop by sellers/people trying to pull you into shops. As for the drunken stags/hens, I was embarrassed to be a Brit. I said I'd never go back.

Barcelona was equally as bad for hawkers and harrassment in the streets, and I honestly didn't feel safe there at all.

It would be Copenhagen for me!

cptartapp · 07/01/2023 20:25

We did Copenhagen in December. It was lovely but bitterly cold. And expensive.
We did Barcelona in Oct and were in the sea.
Never been to Prague.
I would say Barcelona.

Doidontimmm · 07/01/2023 20:27

So strange re above comments, have recently been to Barcelona & Prague and saw no hens/stags and no harassment at all from sellers. I loved both.

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 07/01/2023 22:54

Barcelona

although, as a curve ball, Budapest is better than them all

earsup · 07/01/2023 23:00

I go to barcelona every november for my birthday....this year was cold at night...even same temp as london on some days....get down to sitges has a micro climate and warmer and only 30 mins on the train from sants station etc.

A (very innocent) DS14 remarked that people in Prague must have so much backache, there were so many massage parlours Blush

To be fair we were only there for a couple of days in high summer, it's beautiful but ruined by Brits.

MissAmbrosia · 08/01/2023 12:11

I love both Prague and Barcelona - but in November - Barcelona would win hands down I think. I've been in November (I think - they were putting the xmas lights up) and it was nice enough to sit on a terrace in the daytime, though cooler in the evening.

RedToothBrush · 08/01/2023 12:15

I love Copenhagen - depending on when you go in November it would be Christmas market season, ice-skating and Christmas at Tivoli but it's not the place to go if you are planning to go heavy drinking.

Rauha · 08/01/2023 12:17

Copenhagen

AnnaMagnani · 08/01/2023 12:19

Copenhagen will be cold and wet, plus not yet Christmassy.

mamaes · 08/01/2023 12:20

Madrid!

Bananabreakfast123 · 08/01/2023 12:22

There's really not much to do in Copenhagen, it's really expensive and when we went first week in December it was uncomfortably cold. It was nice to see but wouldn't go back.

Loved Barcelona, especially in the Gothic quarter away from all the tourists spots. Lots of lovely little restaurants and bars where you'd be spoiled for choice.

ratatattatt · 08/01/2023 12:24

Lots of hate for Copenhagen!! Is it nice to visit in a different time of year, september?

Hobbesmanc · 08/01/2023 12:29

Barcelona that time of year. Away from the Ramblas I've never had that much hassle.

Although I'd deffo suggest Palma as an alternative. It's so pretty and great nightlife too

We've been twice. Found plenty to do. Was on my bucket list to take DS for Christmas after going previously.

I think if you are bored in any Capital city in Europe if you are there for 2 / 3 days, you just aren't paying attention and it says more about your inability to research where you are going than the place itself.

If a city is wall to wall tourist trap then you can miss real gems and wonderful experiences too.

It's extremely pretty. The food is great. Lots to see and do as far as we were concerned.

We have been recently and we're gutted our flights got changed on us as it meant we effectively lost a day. There was stuff we wanted to do but couldn't manage (and we tend to try and pack a lot in as it is).

But, like all of Scandinavia it's expensive to eat and drink. It has really lovely, cosy basement bars and restaurants which I'd highly recommend any day of the week. They are a shelter from the cold - warm and friendly.

£8 - 10 a pint is pretty typical. That's literally the only reason I'd rule it out for a group holiday where drinking is likely.

Just don't bother with the Little Mermaid. She's tiny and you just go 'is that it?' in disappointment.

Never been to Prague but do love Barcelona and have been a few times and will probably go again.

Prague is on my list to do but it being so heavily touristified for Brits actually puts me off.

We loved Budapest too though and that's a great idea - the hot spring baths would be fab in November. And the food / drink is cheap.
