Good handbag for long haul flight?

Hello, I've just bought a 30L Cabin Metz as my cabin hand luggage, I'll be putting my large suitcase in the hold.

I'm travelling alone to NZ and I did look at the 44L Cabin Max but I'm 66 and short, I wasn't sure I'd manage it.

I'm going with Singapore Airlines for the first time and am having trouble on deciding on a handbag. I'm connecting through BA and their size limit is 40 mm x 30 mm x 15 mm. My daughter said to take a tiny bag in my hand luggage and take it out when I board, so I've got more room - it's 12 hours to Singapore.

Has anyone found a handbag that 'worked'? Not sure how big the seat pockets are, but will want access to my kindle and water. Handbag will have to go under the seat in front or back in the backpack.

I use a Pliage too, but have not tried an organiser. Anyone got a link to organiser lines for the Pliage?

I like le Pliage, for its good size, shoulder straps and smart enough to use whilst on holiday.

La Pliage for me too, I bought mine last year and have used it endless times already for various trips, it can get loads in it and it’s lightweight to start with so weight isn’t an issue.

Roka backpack here. I only have a small bantry b but it fits in a lot more than it looks like it would. Highly recommend

Another La Pliage user here, really versatile bag thats great to use on flights (I fly a lot) as well as a beach bag and everything inbetween.

I have looks countless times at the divider things from the cheaper end to the quite frankly crazy prices for some, and have always gone back to small packing cubes.

One for make up general stuff like that , one for paperwork/laptop another for glasses purse etc.

Just as an idea, just come back after a long haul holiday in the bag I had a change of clothes, liquids bag (and a sep make up/medication/wipes etc) laptop/leads, book, pashmina 3pairs glasses/lenses, paperwork, 2 phones and leads purse and some pens! (prob forgot a couple of items as well.

This is the large original tote with the long handles.

@Salome61

Re magazines - Have you looked a the Readly App. It has every magazine going for about £8 per month . Happy travels 😊

I have the Kipling Tasmo - which is perfect in terms of size and pockets.

Thanks HighlandsButterfly. I've finally managed to get to my handbag stash (I've had the decorators in) and none of my Kiplings are suitable. I have a lovely Art bag but the pockets aren't right. Off to have a look!

Not an expert on handbags, but for a long-distance flight let me put in a word for that essential item, a photographer's or hiking vest. Doesn't count towards baggage allowance and also provides peace of mind as regards valuables. Elegant it isn't - but on a long haul flight that's just about the last thing on my mind!

My pilot friend similarly recommends cargo trousers to keep phone, passport and wallet on you whilst flying - as if you need to evacuate you’ll have all of these on you.

Kipling rucksack here and I love it, especially as it goes over both shoulders, I feel that by back benefits.

Salome61 · 26/04/2023 00:26

Thank you everyone for your suggestions regarding long haul flight handbags. I bought a Kipling drawstring bag, and a Kipling 'Breezer' handbag which will fit into the zippy front of the drawstring bag.

I've also bought a Mia Tui Jennie for my trips to see my daughter in Belfast.

As I'm so forgetful now I feel so relieved I have bags with a place for everything - I should notice if it/they aren't there!

I like the look of the Jennie particularly. Happy travels!
