Looking for a summer holiday for myself, DH and 3 teenagers. Whereabouts in France would we get good weather (doesn't have to be too hot), nice beach/lake, a selection of shops/restaurants and things that will interest the kids.? Anyone any ideas? Thank you

The West Coast - Royan, Biscarrosse or Lacanau.

South of France, if you base yourselves in Nice you can take the train for day trips to Menton, Monte Carlo, Cannes, Antibes for day trips. Trains are inexpensive and the furthest away around 45 mins.

Will you drive? The Dordogne can't be beaten for activities in my opinion. Montignac, Les Eyzies or Sarlat as a base. Castles, caves, dinosaurs, canoeing etc. Also second Nice (or Antibes or Juan Les Pins). Museums, beach, roman stuff, markets etc.

If you go on eurocamp, they have an option to search for parcs that are geared up for teenagers. Thats what id do, so they can entertain themselves on some days, but youll hopefully also be in a nice area with things for you too

www.sandaya.co.uk/our-campsites/peneyrals We stayed here when dd was 13/14 I think. Loads going on. I don't think Eurocamp do it anymore but they've upgraded it recently and some of their own accommodation looks lovely. It's about 20 mins from Sarlat and 30 from Montignac (Lascaux etc)

lebanquet.com/en/ We've also stayed here, just outside Les Eyzies. It seems to be under new ownership but the cottages and pool were lovely.

What are your children into? beach and pool or adventure stuff or wildlife and history?

We took teenagers to Eastern Dordogne but then spent most of the time driving back past Bordeaux because they wanted beaches and water parks!!!

Its very busy in july august.

We ve a place nr Figeac and spend a lot of time cycling there plus going to the Ariege in the Pyrenees.. much quieter & more history spa towns walking hiking cycling and trips to the the coast on the Spanish French border & Andorra for shopping
