Does anyone know if we can use the bubblebum booster seat? She'll be 7 when we go

www.bubblebum.co

Been googling but drowning in information

It's sort of yes and no.

It's not technically approved there because they have different laws and the version sold in Europe is approved to the EU version of the law not the US one, but the Bubble Bum is also sold in the US and it's essentially the exact same model, just the version sold there has the US car seat sticker on it.

If you want to use a car seat that is approved to the US laws one option is to get one delivered to an amazon locker at the airport. A rigid booster is preferable to an inflatable one, and a high back even better. Obviously you need to take practicality into consideration as well.

BertieBotts · 03/01/2023 22:41

Hmm actually they say it does meet both, so it might have both labels on it. Maybe send them an email/social media message to check?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 03/01/2023 22:46

Are you hiring a car? Can you just hire a seat too?

upfucked · 04/01/2023 07:41

In terms of keeping your child safe it ain’t going to do much.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 04/01/2023 07:53

Is it really needed given her age?. If you feel a booster is needed I would hire a seat to go with the car.

I don’t think there are Amazon lockers present in any US airport due to security reasons.

FlounderingFruitcake · 04/01/2023 08:02

I’d use it. CA law means she has to be in a seat if she’s under 8 and under 4ft9 which I’m presuming she is. Yes it may or may not have the US approved sticker on it but the same identical product is sold there (my neighbours in Chicago used to use one for Ubers) so it wouldn’t concern me in the same way that using a foreign an infant or toddler seat would because the chest clips or absence are so obvious. No it’s not the safest seat ever but no booster is, and she’s 7 not 4.

Thank you, i'll check the tag on it later and as per a PP i'll contact them via social media

She is short so does need a booster and seeing as i already have this i'd rather use it if i can, though of course if it wasn't legal i wouldn't.

I'll do that thanks, i had seen on the website it says meets both sets of regulations but just want to be 100% sure we won't get stopped for using it then be stuck without one

Yes, there are amazon lockers at a lot of US airports. They are land side so no security issue Confused

The US standard is FMVSS 213 or something like that.

If you're worried about being stopped, I wouldn't worry about that - nobody will be able to tell just from looking at it that it isn't the US one. It's only whether you are concerned about sticking exactly to the posted law.

Looks like it should be ok then 'meets & exceeds all US federal standards and European regulations for car seat safety (FMVSS213 Federal Motor Safety Standard for USA & R44/04 for Europe'
I have tweeted them at their US site too though to check

Appreciate this is an old thread but just wondering whether you did use the bubblebum in the end? We’re off to California soon and have the same dilemma!

whoruntheworldgirls · 24/03/2026 13:33

Yep we used it without any issues. The only bad thing was as we were doing a mix of sea level and altitude locations we forgot to adjust the air in the seat and a couple of channels in it popped, ended up looking like a balloon.
For our next trip we just bought a cheap booster seat to put in the largest suitcase.
