Hi,
i was wondering if I could pick your brains about this as I’m clueless about spain . Plus we have not been away for 5 years due to my son’s sudden chronic illness . I’m looking to go away with my husband and 2 sons ( 16 and 13) in July 2023 after GCSEs ! Any advise for nice resorts in Spain which lively but not too much iykwim. Think we will go for villa/apartment but want to be central to Nice restaurants and shops/bars etc we or kids could walk too at night to play pool etc . They pretty independent and like to wander about just themselves too. We are limited to Spain as my son has to have a medical treatment and we can only get the massive amount of supplies delivered to Spain .
feels like there are so many resorts so any help where to start looking would be so welcome . We as a family prefer a kind of midrange type of resort that not too exclusive but not the cheapest either Iykwim. We love authentic spanish tapas food but also Irish bars ! In past have always loved to go to Portugal, especially a resort called alvor but can’t travel there now due to medical supplies not being shipped there .
many many thanks

Malaga is actually a beautiful and interesting city (not just a naff tourist airport) and we've had lots of fun there. Great restaurants, art galleries, castle and churches, very relaxed vide, plenty to do or see.

Also eat about an hour for Nerja for snorkelling and scuba diving, or west towards Marbella for places like Mijas and Calahonda - local markets and mini-marts, plenty of places to swim, play pool, etc etc. Mine liked that as teens.

Nerja would be ideal. We have beenbthere a few times with our teen boys.
Marbella is beautiful but more expensive

Another vote for Nerja too! Lots to see and do with a beach too. Public transport is also cheap and easy if you wanted to explore.

I also recommend Malaga. We were very pleasantly surprised. The city has so much to do and it felt very safe. You can also easily hop on the train to the beach where there’s loads of beach clubs to spend an afternoon.

I also love Alvor and it’s very different (obviously Malaga is huge in comparison). If you wanted something similar you’d be better off in Nerja.

Salou? Can you go to bay if the islands or does it need to be mainland for medical supplies?

I was going to say Nerja too. Small town, plenty of tapas and a couple of Irish bars too.
Depending on your son’s medical needs though it only has a small health centre. Lots of private practices that speak English though. Nearest decent hospital would be Malaga which is 40mins or so away.

I was also coming on to say Nerja!!
