Hello.
If we (DH, DD(12), DD (8) and I fly into Naples in June for a week. What are good options?
We really like a mobile park options (yelloh village type) or an apartment.
I've heard mixed things about Naples.
We've been to Sorrento and it was lovely but I wouldn't go back.
Thanks so much for any suggestions. 💗

Not really sure what you're asking for, accommodation? Things to do?

Naples is beautiful, and I think a trip to Pompeii on the train, and a boat trip to Capri is unmissable. Also eating pizza Neapolitan. Tour of Vesuvius?

It's been a while since I was there, but there was quite a bit of crime then. We (female trip) were told to stay in busy places at night and avoid the area round the train station.

We had an attempted pick pocketing by Naples train station, typical Italian style though they just laugh it off if you catch them (we've had the same a couple of times in Rome). We (as a family) stayed near the train station and found it fine though, some great pizza places there, get recommendations though as also some awful tourist traps.

All suggestions of what to do above plus Herculaneum, loads to do around Naples and easy to get to by train.

We flew in and out of Naples when we stayed at Camping Fabulous.

Any and all suggestions welcome. We'd be open to hiring a car or taking a train elsewhere to stay for the week.
Thanks for all suggestions so far 😊

We went to the catacombs which was really interesting! A few children there too

fruitypancake · 28/12/2022 20:25

Positano

GCAcademic · 28/12/2022 20:27

I really wouldn’t recommend hiring a car. It’s the one place in Europe where the approach to driving reminded me of the utter chaos of India. You can get to places by train or ferry.

Luckycatt · 28/12/2022 20:28

😂 agree about the cars. The streets are very narrow and windy and there's car paintwork on all the corners of buildings!

Corcra · 28/12/2022 21:22

Yes. I've driven in lots of different countries but I remember now why I haven't got a car there before!!
We'd like a trip to the catacombs for sure

I’d get a ferry to Ischia and stay there for a few days, it’s gorgeous

TwoMagnificentLabradors · 28/12/2022 21:48

No need to hire a car and some of the driving along that stretch of road really is something else. Between the ferries and circumvesuviana train, you can easily get to most spots. The Amalfi coast is gorgeous, although I imagine Positano is quite boring for kids and isn’t on a the train line. The local buses are good though. How about staying on Ischia? That’s lovely.

Corcra · 28/12/2022 22:01

Loving the idea of Ischia actually.
I'll look into it.

The coastal train goes from Naples to Sorrento and is very cheap. We stayed just outside Pompeii in an agriturismo - (basically an airbnb on a farm). We went to pompei - one stop on the train, climbed Vesuvius, went to Sorrento, had a beach day, went to Herculaneum etc. We did 3 nights in Rome and 4 nights in Pompeii, traveled on the train between the two.

Ch3wylemon · 28/12/2022 22:11

I preferred Herculaneum to Pompei and strongly recommend Paestum - about an hour away by car or train. Ancient ruins with a fraction of the visitors of the acropolis in Greece.

There are also good value hotels nearby - it's a popular wedding destination- so you can get a luxury room midweek for ok money.

Capri is worth a visit too.

disconnecteddrifter · 28/12/2022 22:34

Ischia

MissAmbrosia · 28/12/2022 22:48

We're going to Ischia (with a few days in Naples to go to Herculaneum and underground things). Ischia is fabulous.

Bulbstarglitterball · 29/12/2022 08:39

Also get the train to Pompeii, it’s amazing. We got a guide which was money well spent, such an incredible place. A

TizerorFizz · 29/12/2022 08:54

Mary Beard has written about Pompeii. It’s not an easy read but is useful prep. I too would visit Herculaneum snd Paestum. We enjoyed both of these. Like most Italian cities, Naples has churches, piazzas and food!

Corcra · 29/12/2022 13:42

Thanks for the suggestions. I've lots to go on. Appreciate it 💗
