Where to stay in Paris

I'm planning a short break in Paris next year in early April. It will be me with my two kids who are aged 8 and 11 and would appreciate some advice in where is best to stay area wise.
We don't have any fixed itinerary yet and the only must do is the Eiffel Tower. I don't want to be too far away from things as we will only be staying for three nights, but at the same time I want to keep the budget in the mid range. Thanks!

There is no single best area to stay in Paris because the most popular attractions are spread around the city. The best tip I can give is to stay within a short walk of a metro station.
If you can find reasonably priced accommodation, I’d go for the 7th Arrondissement or in Le Marais. The 7th is a typically Parisian but touristy neighbourhood close to some of the main sights. It doesn’t have loud nightlife and it feels totally safe.
If you’re finding those areas too pricy, I think probably the best combination of location and affordability is the 9th (Opéra / South Pigalle) which is why we’ve chosen to stay there on our past two trips. It’s a bit more gritty than the more expensive parts of Paris but it’s perfectly safe, and the rest of Paris isn’t exactly clean either.

Agree with Fivemoreminutes. We liked 7th and 6th Arrondissements. Walkable to the Musee D'Orsay and Eiffel Tower but also near to the Jardin du Luxembourg for a bit of down time. Montparnasse is an alternative which used to be a bit cheaper.

Hotel rooms in Paris are all small , so just remember that. We tend to stick with chains when we go to Paris just as accom we find can be hit and miss. We go for the Accor chain and normally keep it cheap and cheerful with an ibis.

We stayed in a Junior Suite (with a view of the top of the Eiffel Tower) at the Mercure Paris Central Tour Eiffel at Easter last year for 2 adults and 2 children: all.accor.com/hotel/2175/index.en.shtml
We did need somewhere with parking as we were coming back from skiing and the Paris Marathon was on making the city more crowded but I would go bask. Breakfast was good, v short walk to Eiffel Tower, metro station and for river boat tour. I got a deal in January when Accor did some sort of sale which made it reasonable.

Le Marais is the best area of Paris, it’s close to most things and not touristic. Really gorgeous unspoilt authentic French area. I won’t stay anywhere else!

Placemarking as booking a similar trip with DC next April. Any other tips or recommendations? Am thinking of an open top bus tour to make the most of the sights and getting around?
