Would turkey be too hot in August?

Last 2 weeks of August is the only annual leave option I have got. I have my heart set on a tui holiday to turkey. We went late Sept last year and it was perfect. But will August be too hot? I have two very very fair children with freckles who never tan. Would we be able to explore or would it just be too hot?

I have tui flex so couod also look at other destinations if they are slightly cooler. Any ideas?

Yes Turkey will be extremely hot in August. We went in July many years ago and saw temperatures of over 100 degrees at 7pm. The eastern Mediterranean is hard work in July/August. Portugal maybe worth a look as it tends to be a bit cooler.

Thank you. I don't think my children would cope wit that as they struggle with a British summer.

Slovenia wouldn’t be terribly hot. Up in the north, lakes, Julian Alps.

For me. A wee pale Scottish lassie. It was absolutely horrendous.

I spent more time inside.
It was about 45 degrees most days and just completely unbearable.

mrsrobin · 24/12/2022 07:52

Yes it will be boiling hot!

elm26 · 24/12/2022 07:55

I'm a sun worshipper and Turkey made me feel ill end of July a few years ago. It was 46 degrees and I felt like I was suffocating.

I've also been in May which was much more comfortable.

I personally wouldn't book to go at that time of year.

Went in August this year with my 4 year old. It went up to about 43 degrees. My daughter spent all her time in the swimming pool and I rarely sat out in it and spent most of my time in the pool as well. It was very hot but it didn't ruin anything for us and we had the best holiday we ever had. Dd loved the heat so much she wants to move to Turkey.

PritiPatelsMaker · 26/12/2022 10:00

Personally I wouldn't even consider it for such fair DC.

upfucked · 26/12/2022 10:01

Yes too hot!

BCBird · 26/12/2022 10:04

I went years ago in August
Mate organised it. Bad move Avi hate Sun. Pre internet days or I would have googled the temperature etc.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 27/12/2022 17:10

Turkey does get very hot in August. It’s usually mid to high 30s.

AnyFucker · 27/12/2022 17:11

Roasting

Bunnycat101 · 28/12/2022 21:10

Roasting. We’ve been out during that period and was 38 minimum with one day around 46. I’m sure I got heatstroke that day as I spent the evening vomiting. Otherwise we coped by being in aircon or pool. It was just too hot for wondering around etc. I have fair children who didn’t burn and coped fine but was constantly topping up cream, made sure they were in rash vests for pool etc. tbh you’d have to do that for anywhere in the med even if not quite as hot.

TaylorsSwimShorts · 28/12/2022 21:42

Yep, we won't end of aug a few years ago... 45 degrees, we all love the sun but the nights were awful even with air con!

JaninaDuszejko · 28/12/2022 21:50

As a freckly Scot with reddish hair I'd only do the Med in the spring or autumn these days. In August I'd look at northern europe: Gotland or Denmark or Normandy if you want a beach holiday or possibly somewhere like Lake Garda.

MissAtomicBomb1 · 28/12/2022 23:14

How about the canaries? They tend to be warm but not super hot all year and lanzarote is quite breezy.

Haveagentlechristmas · 29/12/2022 11:38

Canaries is an idea. Though I loved the culture of Turkey and want to go back. But just can't seem to make it work with the dates I can take annual leave. Perhaps I can consider other dates or locations. I'm tying myself in knots!

Tallulasdancingshoes · 02/01/2023 22:04

We’ve been to Turkey in August a few times and yes it’s hot, but we were fine. Didn’t want to explore much so we’re happy to stay in resort. In the pool lots or under shade. The resorts we’ve been to have been amazing at providing enough shade around the pool areas. I wouldn’t want to sit out in full sun, but absolutely fine in the shade with factor 50 on.
