Travel insurance that isn't AXA?

For years I've had an annual policy with Coverwise (pre existing medical conditions).

I needed to claim for the first time this year and am being messed about by AXA, their underwriters, who seem to be incompetent.

My renewal date is January so can anyone recommend a good travel insurance policy with pre existing medical conditions that isn't underwritten by AXA?

We've just been through the renewal process, & the quotes - even from existing insurer - were horrendous due to age & medical conditions.
By sheer luck I found M&S Insurance, they don't come up on comparison sites.
I think we've paid c.£450, instead of c.£700 - & that includes cruises that a lot of companies charge extra for.
You never know how good they are until you make a claim, of course !

We have an annual worldwide policy. Over the years we’ve used The Post Office, Direct line and since being over 50, Staysure. For the two of us with no health issues and cruise cover it’s about £200

P.S. M&S is underwritten by Aviva.

Staysure were one of the £700 quotes !
Age & health conditions make a huge difference - even if the health problem has been stabilised with meds for years.

Thank you. I'll check when I do the comparison who the underwriters are as I definitely won't be using anyone linked to AXA in future. I hope M & S come up with a good price.

Ooft that’s a nightmare. I’ll bear that in mind for the future.

Away from the mainstream "Brand Name" insurers there are brokers who offer BIBA travel policies. BIBA = British Insurance Brokers' Association.

Any member firm will attempt to find a policy that is tailored to the individual traveller by contacting a number of underwriters. I used a broker for many years and the quotes were comparable or cheaper than the "Brand" insurers, despite a few major health issues, and travel to the USA and Canada, and on the occasions that I needed to claim on the insurance, the process was very smooth. For over 15 years I used Firth and Scott in Nottingham (everything was done on the phone and by email), but there are literally hundreds of similar brokers.

I've been looking this morning. A couple of the cheaper ones have terrible reviews (unsurprising) and some of them cost more than a trip would.

I've tried M & S bank, filled in the pre existing conditions and it's saying it won't cover anything to do with them. And then the website stopped working.

I might look into a broker or go with the Aviva quote which was around £300. I just need to double check the exclusions.
