Hi, taking my 10 year old daughter to London for 2 nights in feb, any recommendations for things to do?

Already planning to go see a show and was thinking maybe a harry potter tour/walk? (we aren’t going to the studios) Any other great places/restaurants to take kids or places to avoid? Planning on staying premier inn Westminister.

This may be of interest to you re Harry Potter walks.

Wonderlab at The Science Museum is excellent (you need to book).

Fivemoreminutes1 · 06/12/2022 13:40

If it’s the first time she’s been to London, then I’d do an open top bus tour, the London Eye and a themed afternoon tea.

Boat trip on the Thames clipper. It's a good way to see some of the sights and not too expensive compared to other boat trips. You could also try and get tickets to go up to the sky garden (top of the walkie-talkie building) which gives you a great view of the city. (Free tickets are released on a Monday).

Open top bus

A Thames boat Tour

wishingchair1 · 06/12/2022 23:38

There is a night bus on groupon that we went on, if they are into Harry Potter. A old funeral bus it was fab bit of a ghost tour around London. British museum is fab, all the Egyptian stuff.

WinterLobelia · 06/12/2022 23:40

I was recommended to do the Terrible Thames boat tour on MN.

hands down one of the best things we have done with the Dcs. (11 and 9). I suggest it now to everyone.

The Museum of London is worth a visit, & free

Georgyporky · 07/12/2022 10:15

Do check whether you need to pre-book a timed visit for all tourist attractions.

ImAvingOops · 07/12/2022 10:17

I wanted to do the sky garden when they're last, but you have to book and it gets filled up quickly. It is free though.

ImAvingOops · 07/12/2022 10:17

There, not they're

AttilaTheMeerkat · 07/12/2022 10:22

You will need to show photographic id if visiting the Sky Garden. It is certainly worth booking in advance and the views are great particularly on clear days.

urbanbuddha · 07/12/2022 10:30

The Museum of London at Barbican has closed down and will be relocating - the Docklands Museum of London is still open.

There are loads of restaurants at Southbank, but most of them are chains like Giraffe, Wagamama and Wahaca.
Ping Pong is pretty cool.
Elsewhere in Central London: EL&N, Inamo, Bubba Gump, Maxwell’s and Hard Rock Cafe.

Most DC I know love the Beefeater tour at the Tower of London. The Crown Jewels have real resonance this year. The London Eye is wonderful. Still enjoy it. Science museum and natural history museum are great. St Paul’s is very good and so is Westminster Abbey as you are nearby - coronation venue? I would not really bother with Harry Potter.

We like tea at any Firmdale hotel! Just great teas! Or have tea at Liberty. We never used themed restaurants. At 10 you cannot go wrong looking at restaurants around Covent Garden. Some restaurant do pre Theatre deals which are good value. Talking of theatre: Matilda the Musical is great.

shreddies · 10/12/2022 18:02

The Tower of London is brilliant. My kids have always enjoyed it.

Do not bother with Wonderlab, madame tussauds or the London dungeon. Overpriced tourist tat.

What are her interests? I would be guided by that.

Yes, Nat history museum and an evening in the west end sounds lovely.

Lj8893 · 10/12/2022 18:31

My 9yo DD loves the British museum, natural history museum, Hamleys, EL&N cafe (her favourite was the one by Harrods).

Frozen the musical was amazing if your DD is in to Disney (although you don’t need to be a Disney fan to enjoy it).

Our favourite thing to do in London is wander along the south bank from Westminster bridge down to Borough market. Depends on the weather though!

Last time we went to London we went to the Shrek adventure which was so fun!

TizerorFizz · 10/12/2022 19:08

There’s so much more to London than Disney. It’s London! One of the greatest cities in the world! I’d stick to iconic London. You cannot go wrong.

I was the only one that mentioned Disney and only because I suggested a show (which the OP was asking about) that happens to be a Disney story. I also suggested lots of other “iconic London” things.

so I’m not really sure what your Disney comment is about?

TizerorFizz · 10/12/2022 19:33

Isn’t Shrek Disney that was mentioned above my earlier post?

Lj8893 · 10/12/2022 19:36

No, Shrek isn’t Disney.
And again, was just a suggestion that my similar aged DD enjoyed. Your post came across a bit mean.
