Granada in December

Has anyone been? What warmth clothing did you need? I'm going mid-Dec. Tend to run a little cold and will be doing a fair bit of walking around the city. I've been to Madrid at the same time and was fine in a warm-ish but short jacket (what would be an autumn jacket in London) and a wool but quite light-knit jumper. Will Granada be warmer?

We went at a similar time and it was pretty chilly (colder than Madrid I found) but when the sun was strong it really warmed up - so layers are key! Such an amazing city, I’m very jealous.

Thank you, that's helpful. Yes, I'm really excited; never been before.

Amazing spot, hope they still do the free Tapas! Temps looking good right now and my weather app tells me it is hovering 17d around 14th Dec. That's WARM compared to here! But it can change I suppose. As others have said, layers, warm scarf and a backpack. Peel off or add on as you go! My one necessity anywhere I go is comfortable walking shoes that you KNOW will work for you.

Have a great time.

Yes, that's basically balmy Grin I'm assuming it might be cold early and late in the day though, as it's a mountainous area. And IME of Murcia in December, it was warm in the sun but as soon as you walked into the shade it was quite chilly.
I'm thinking longish but fairly light coat (not full-on winter wool or padded); medium-warmth wool/cotton mix jumpers with a long-sleeved top under; cords; scarf, hat and gloves in backpack. Will be wearing flat UGG leather ankle boots that I know are comfortable and sturdy.

I remember it being bloody freezing but can’t remember what I wore. All the shops selling fur coats suddenly made sense. Not sure if they still do now.

I went in December and it was much colder than I had expected. Saying that, it did feel warmer in the afternoon sun so take lots of layers to cover bases

Granada is beautiful this time if year, very atmospheric! Andalusian hones Di not tend to have heating though, so I'd take a thick coat and lots of woollen layers / fleeces as well as maybe a sleeping bag for lower temperatures - many bedrooms only have woollen blankets rather than duvets (unless it's changed in the last 10 years).
PS: Make sure you prebook the Alhambra! Córdoba and Ronda are also nice places to visit.

Thanks all. Temperatures for my trip dates are currently between 10 and 17 degrees, so I'm thinking wool winter coat with mid-weight jumpers and long-sleeved tops.
Unfortunately I'm travelling with an under-seat bag only, so can't take much with me. Will have to hope there's extra blankets or other bedding in the apartment.
Have prebooked the Alhambra and am crossing fingers that it's a nicer day than the forecast suggests (rain!).

@ DameHelena thinking of revisiting Granada and wondered how it went?

Fabulous city

DameHelena · 30/12/2022 12:10

Lovely, thank you! Unfortunately it was quite rainy (including a TORRENTIAL downpour one evening), which locals told us was very unusual. Still had a great time and found it fascinating and really delightful though. There was much more to do and see than I’d imagined - I thought we’d basically see the Alhambra and wander into a church or two and that’d be it, but we went to loads of amazing churches and monasteries and there’s still plenty we didn’t see. And we didn’t even start on museums; I’d like to go to the Lorca museum and gypsy museum when/if I go back.

So glad yo enjoyed. I visited back in July kind of by accident and fell in love with the city. |So much more than I expected and the tapas culture was an added bonus. So glad you enjoyed.
