Where to go for a winter break?

If you could get away in Jan, Feb or March for some winter sun, where would you go?

Preferably not a cruise or one of those all inclusive mega resorts...,,

Currently in Madrid and it's been fantastic for a weekend city break. Theme park, zoo, Christmas markets. We have a 4 year old and she's been well entertained. So family friendly. People dressed up as Santa, polar bears etc. Play parks full of families in the evening, such a great buzz.

India, particularly south Kerala or Indonesia for hot winter weather

We were looking at the Canary Islands for half term in February. Then I nearly died at the flight prices, so we've settled for Centre Parcs. It's obviously not going to be hot 😂 But the kids will love the tropical paradise swimming, I'm going to hit the spa, we've booked onto loads of fun activities and we can snuggle up by the log burner and get our food delivered in the evening. Can you tell I'm excited? 😬

Brazil or Argentina are great winter destinations. It’s high season in the Caribbean but you could look. Thailand probably is ok somewhere as they have different climate zones. South Africa and East Africa are ok too. Egypt and Morocco.

Is your budget short haul or long haul?

You can go to the Canaries and not stay in an all inclusive mega resort. There's also quite a lot to do that's not laying in the sun and drinking.

We've been diving in Tenerife, mountain biking in Gran Canaria, hiking in Madeira. Plusin places like Lanzarote, there's things like vineyards, caves, Cesar Manrique arty stuff, botanical gardens, volcano parks, museums and other interesting things to see and do.

This is the sort of place we tend to stay.

You can book direct or via most package providers.

You might also get lucky with the weather somewhere like Seville or Malaga, but it's not guaranteed and it can be quite stormy in southern Spain in winter.

How long for OP? What's your budget? Just adults or DC as well and what age?

There are lots of places that are warm or hot in the UK winter, but it really depends how far you want to go and how much you've got to spend. On the cheaper end - Canary Islands, Madeira, Cape Verde, Morocco, Egypt. Bit more expensive - Oman, Jordan, Caribbean, Mexico, Mauritius, SE Asia. Expensive - Australia, NZ, S. Pacific.
