Somewhere to have breakfast in High Holborn/Drury Lane area?

Don't know how I did that - it just swallowed my post!

I'm looking for somewhere to take MIL and 2 SIL for breakfast on Saturday morning. We are staying in the Travelodge on Drury Lane on Friday night and going shopping in Oxford Street on Saturday morning (aargh - my idea of hell!) I'd like to go somewhere where we can get toast, coffee and maybe a fry-up (will need all the strength and energy I can get). Not too posh but not to shabby either. Any ideas?

What about Bank at the bottom of Kingsway. They do a good breakfast during the week and I am pretty certain they are open w/ends.

Great suggestion - unfortunately when I googled them I found out that they do a brunch that starts at 11.30am. My in-laws will expect to have done at least 2 hours' shopping by then!
Anyone else?

Scratching my head here a bit.... There used to be a greasy spoon type caff directly opposite the Law Courts which was O.K as I recall. Perhaps some currently practicing legal eagles can confirm? Otherwise I would recommend going into one of the hotels, like the Strand Palace (on the Strand!) who I am sure would do you breakfast at a reasonable price!

loads of decent coffee shops around there, but does coffee republic not do it for you?

there's 1 aldwych, the hotel, there's a coffee shop +restaurant there too. bit swank.

I agree but the trouble with all these coffee shops is that none of them do traditional english - its all croissants and cappucinos! No.1 Aldwych is very nice but I guess pretty expensive. There is a coffee bar attached to the hotel on the corner called the Cinamon Bar but again it is more of a continental type place.

Simpsons on the strand should be traditional

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll put them to the In Laws and see what they think (lots of food issues so it's a bit of a minefield and it all depends on what sort of mood SIL is in...)

John Lewis have a great cafe with lots of different food counters... you'd be there for shopping when it opened then? Or there is a Ponti's just behind Hennes at Oxford Circus. Neither could be called posh!

Farmer Brown in New Row which is between St Martin's Lane and Cvt Gdn. V good quality fry-ups, loads of choice, good coffee. Not 'posh', more like a v v high quality greasy spoon.

there used to be a fantastic greasy spoon on Store Street (sort of north Holborn/Bloomsbury). I think it may have changed it's name and is now called Lino's but I'll have a look for it on the net.
