An old friend reconnected recently through social media and said shes moved to Martinique and invited me to visit.
It'll take me a while to save up, but would lovw to hear what its like?! Should i go? Alone or with kids ?😅

We went about 20 years ago there and it was similar in appearance to other Caribbean islands with a very French feel to it. Quite a few rum places and nice botanical gardens and Josephine, Napoleon's wife's house and we also took a day trip by boat to St Lucia, which had a very American feel by comparison and we much preferred Martinique. We flew from Paris and the flights were cheap as it was then subsidised by French govt, have family there anyway.

Would be fine for kids too, probably want to avoid hurricane season.

Ive just moved here 😊 kids are loving it. Avoid the rainy season (july to November ish). We haven't yet been here in the winter but everyone tells us its the best weather wise - warm and dry.

You do need a car to get around

Also its a loooong way to go. We lived in Paris so was "easy" (9hr direct flight) but when i travelled from the UK you first go to Paris and then fly. Depending on where you live in the UK this can be more or less exhausting...

@InvincibleInvisibility oh lovely!! What an exciting move!
The journey length doesn't scare me, we've just been to Africa.

Think its June to October/November hurricane season with September the peak. You would be very unlucky to hit one but we always avoid this time. We went in December and that was a nice time to visit.

I don't know if you can fly to St Lucia and get Express des Iles boat over as you can get to St Lucia directly with BA from UK, that might be a crazy idea but could do 2 Caribbean islands and direct flight. Otherwise think it is via Paris now. Though would not do boat same day as plane, at least when we went on waves were going above the boat.
