Not Blackpool! It's an absolute dump.

Dartmoorcheffy · 10/11/2022 14:51

Go to torquay, there are lots of nearby places too that are nice to visit. Blackpool is a dump, and I was born and grew up there but live in Devon now .

CoastalWave · 10/11/2022 14:56

Blackpool is an absolute hole. You do not want to go there! Honestly can't find one night thing to say about the place.

earsup · 10/11/2022 14:58

Blackpool.....!! i think it was ok about 30 years ago....we passed thro about 4 years ago...even the 59 p shop was boarded up....super depressing....awful..

SylviasMotherSaid · 10/11/2022 14:59

Torquay 100 per cent and it’s also close to many other places you can spend time in plus the weather is usually better than the North West

meatballsoup · 10/11/2022 15:00

I live near Torquay, I honestly wouldn't recommend it. It used to be nice but now it's a bit of a shit hole.

mattyprice4004 · 11/11/2022 00:02

Both are fairly dire, I live near Blackpool and visited Torquay for work a couple of years ago.
A shame as I have so many fond memories of both when I was little

Dartmoorcheffy · 11/11/2022 00:49

As an alternative how about Western supermare. Visited there recently and it looked a really great resort.

Dartmoorcheffy · 11/11/2022 00:49

Or even try Weston-super-Mare... 🙄🤣

Funf · 11/11/2022 19:36

Every one should see Blackpool once its usually enough.
It is what it is a Big traditional Sea Side town, it has posh areas and not so posh
I feel a winter weekend to see the lights is best
Personally I feel North Wales would be a better option, loads to see and do
Some ideas

Blackpool.... oh my lord. Its an absolute s*hole. Druggies everywhere, buildings all look derelict.... nothing good about the place anymore.

Disco2022 · 12/11/2022 18:45

I am near Weston S Mare and we do find lots of great children friendly things to do- not much sea paddling unless you catch the tide at the 1 hour a day that it gets to us-
Have also lived in Torquay, again if British seaside is what you want then torquay is great. I actually prefer Dawlish at the moment but only for the beaches/paddleboarding.
Having said all of that, those people who are saying there are run down/druggy parts are right, but that is literally every seaside town in the uk- seasonal working, low wage hospitality and not great transport links do tend to make that happen! But if you stick to the shiny touristy bits both Torquay and Weston are alright!

I’ve been to both. For Easter go to Torquay. October half term is a good time to visit Blackpool for the illuminations. We had a weekend there just gone with the kids. Fireworks, fish and chips, illuminations, arcades, Madame Tussaud’s and the Dungeon. We had a great time but 2 nights was enough.

Lincslady53 · 13/11/2022 18:59

If you want to go to the NW stay in Lytham or St Annes. Both nice resorts, St Annes has a beach. You can visit Blackpool for a day, the Pleasure Beach is good, and the walk down to the Tower is interesting. The Zoo, if you like them, is also ok. Lots to do in Blackpool from shows, water park waxworks and the Pleasure Beach but away from the frontline it is a real dump, so stay down the road.
