Rome or Pompeii first?

I’m planning a family trip to Rome and Pompeii next October. We’re going for a week and I can’t decide whether to stay in Pompeii for 2 days first, then the rest in Rome or vice versa.
Can anyone give me a compelling reason either way?
Minor detail I know, but it’s annoying me.

My dh was pick pocketed in Naples ( and no one has ever even attempted it elsewhere, he is 6'3" and about 4' wide.
His colleague, on a seperate occasion was brutally mugged and ended up in hospital with a head injury. That's enough for me! Sorrento is your answer.

I went to both earlier this year.

Naples is grotty... not really a fun place, a few nice museums, but I most definitely recommend the catacombs!!! You'd struggle to spend more than two days at the most here.

Pompeii is actually pretty cool. DON'T go when it is expected to be hot... it's huge, unshaded and lots of walking. If you really live history, you could spend a day here, but this place suffers from the same as Cairo, Easter Island, Stone Henge etc etc in that you can get bored very quickly of much of a muchness.

Rome, so much to do, I'd prioritise here.

Overall breakdown, Pompeii 6 hours, Naples, day and a half, Rome say 2-3 days.
