Help wanted - Canada trip - cabin in the woods/Toronto

I am genuinely stumped and need some help!

I am planning a trip to Canada next year with DD (who will be 7 months at the time) and DH.

Im struggling to find places or know what to search for to get our ‘vision’ so wanted to see if anyone had some pointers.

I essentially want to plan a split stay to make the most of the trip, we will spend a night or two at Niagara Falls, and want to spend at least 4 nights in Toronto and will most likely be hotel based there too.

What I’m struggling most with is our final ‘element’ I want to find a log cabin/lodge in the woods type accommodation for the largest part of the trip, it needs to however be somewhere close enough to a main area so we can get out and explore from the lodge as a base. Ideally it would be in commuting distance to Toronto, as then we could skip the hotel in Toronto and get the lodge/cabin and drive in for the tourist stuff we want to do there.

Other factors

We are planning to travel mid September, and max budget for the accommodation minus Niagara Falls would be £4,000 - ideally for 10 nights in the lodge/cabin if near Toronto, 7 if not near Toronto.

We would be hiring a car.

Does anyone know of where we could start our search for, any Forrest areas around Toronto that have accommodations like this?

I grew up in Bc and now live in TO. TO is the most multicultural city in the world. I also reccommend Kensington Market, The AGO and the botanical gardens. I love it here. Vancouver is lovely but it's friendlier and more diverse here, plus the summers are nicer. If you come in autumn it's spectacular.

I have family in the area: I would recommend a day trip to Niagara Falls. Not sure what you are interested in in Toronto, but there are many wonderful things to see there. Particular highlights for me include the art museum, the Shoe Museum (yes, really, a whole museum full of shoes), and a tour of whatever they are calling the Skydome these days; it's an astonishing feat of engineering. You will not, however, want to drive there, parking is $$$$$ and the public transport is cheap and user friendly.

While my family are Ontario-based, I do concur with others that if you want Canada-pretty an excursion to the west is worthwhile. Vancouver is stunning, and Banff/Jasper will be gorgeous at that time of year.

Following with interest as I am planning a trip to Canada in May/June 2024 for 3 weeks. Was planning on western side. Want to do a week by car, an RV experience and a train journey. Has anyone got experience of good holiday agents who Taylor your trip?

Six times to Canada, three times to Ontario. Which is the most boring part of Canada. But cabins by lakes- amazing!! Just don't bother at all with Ottawa. Toronto- a few days is fine. Niagra, same, probably less.

Can’t believe people are saying Toronto isn’t exciting! I absolutely loved it and would like to go back

We had a Canada trip a few years ago. First 4 nights were in Toronto, we got an apartment through air BnB. We did a day trip to Niagara.

Then we drive to a cabin (actually a really decent size house!) in Muskoka, the nearest town I think was Gravenhurst. It was gorgeous, the house was in the woods and a very short walk to a lovely bit of the river. We had a fantastic week exploring all the little towns around the lakes.

Finally, we drove to a little town called Picton in Prince Edward County, which is on the North East side of Lake Ontario. We had a brilliant few days around there.

We stayed in a cabin in Algonquin national park. Absolutely lovely and easy to get to from Toronto.

@ZebraF do you have any details you can share on the cabin. Thanks

We stayed here some years ago and it is in the park. Saw a lot of wildlife in a few days. www.killarneylodge.com/

@Jostar2 these are the Air BnB listings. Bear in mind it was more than 5 years ago now, and it looks like both are using the same photos as previously, and neither has been reviewed for a while. So while we had a fabulous time, I can’t really vouch for how good the accommodation is these days!

@LargeHadronCollidHER can I ask where you stayed in the end and if you'd recommend it? We're looking to book the exact same holiday.
