I'm "only" 46 so I have 4 years to save for a big once in a lifetime trip for me and my family. That's me and 2 boys who will be 15 and 11 at that point.

Could you give me some ideas for a fab holiday location.

I will be saving about 300 per month towards it

Tenerife is amazing

Depending on time of year and what you want to do (activity etc) Costa Rica is lovely, Canary Islands for water sports (surf holiday perhaps?), go euro railing etc

CharlotteStreet · 06/11/2022 09:38

So a budget of approx £14k?

Safari.

Hawaii. The different islands are very contrasting and not to be missed; venture beyond Honolulu.

Oh some great ideas already thank you.
Im not a massive fan of the canaries but Hawaii sounds amazing. Safari also a great idea. Euro railing a good idea but don't want to rough it too much 😂

What about a trip to Scotland perhaps?

Feelinglikeachange22 · 06/11/2022 12:57

I've worked in Scotland for a little while so I know it pretty well already, plus am after some sunshine 🌞👍

Iceland in Summer is amazing. Lots to do and see glacier walks, waterfalls, quad bikes. Not ‘sunny’ really though even in August.

Jordan is history, culture adventure, hiking and beach - amazing trip. May half term or Oct

Morocco has a bit of crossover with desert experiences. may or Oct

Peru was a proper adventure with huge contrasts Amazon and trekking, rafting, culture. August

Namibia a fantastic self drive safari and more. August

Cuba is a fantastic location to tour, not just Havana and beach. Very interesting and beautiful. Lots of history. Easter

Sri Lanka is not a viable trip at the moment, but we’ll worth touring in 4 years I expect. Easter or Xmas

Japan is the most different to here and culturally very interesting. Easter

China was, well China, but more cultural than adventure, but boat down the Yankee was great. Easter or Oct (if got 2 weeks)

We are heading to Costa Rica at Xmas, again wildlife and adventure trips.

We off to Indonesia too and again lots of contrasts and adventure. Volcanos, wildlife, boats, bikes, dragons! August

I really fancy a boat on the Croatian cost.

British Columbia is great for your children’s ages, if you don’t mind driving.

We went to Calgary, drove to Dinosaur Provincial Park and did various guided walks over two days and then went to the Royal Tyrell museum (dinosaurs). After that we drove to Jasper for a few days to hike (easy hikes ), drove to Athabaska glacier for that tour and then onto Canmore near Banff for more hikes. We saw a bear one day and plenty of other wildlife. We then went back to Calgary for Stampede and spent a day at the old Olympic park where DH did the toboggan and we all did the karts, zip lining etc.
The dinosaur stuff was for ds aged 16 but me and DH were totally blown away by it and the mountains were absolutely stunning. Every hotel/condo I booked had a pool. Lots of people drive from Banff over to Vancouver. Definitely the holiday of a lifetime and worth it for your 50th.

Should also have said our flights were €3300 for 3 of us but I was very lucky when choosing dates and got business going over which DH and DS loved and then managed to get premium on the way back free due to them cancelling our return flight and having to come back a day later.

I've travelled a lot but I don't think you can beat Thailand or Mexico whether it's your first time away or you've been everywhere. There's so much variety, so much to see and do, the food is amazing, great places to stay, not too expensive.

But where you should go depends very much on when you want to go.
