Thinking of it for summer 2023? Anyone any recommendations of who to book with or what to see? We're thinking 2 weeks. No idea what to see or do other than Tokyo and Kyoto and Mt Fiji but it is on our bucket list. Tks

I live in Japan and I wouldn't recommend coming in August. It's terribly humid and hot (almost unbearably so), no flowers in the parks, not much to enjoy outside, you'd be dying to spend time inside just like all Japanese people, which means all the museums etc. will be packed with people.
Japan is magnificent in spring, looking like a fairytale come alive. Autumn is also beautiful here, winter is okayish. Summer - not so much, and August is seriously the worst. Unless you spend most of your time in Hokkaido of course or head off to Okinawa for tropical paradise.

@chappysays I went many times to Korea for leisure and work and I struggled many times with nobody understanding my English.
Things like taxi drivers at 2 biggest airports near Seoul failing to comprehend hotel addresses written in English alphabet (I had to go to the Information desk inside Incheon airport once to have my hotel's address written in Korean on a piece of paper when I couldn't find the address written in Korean on hotel's website. The Information desk girl who helped me was really nice, but we communicated through an online translator because she spoke zero English).
I can't say all Japanese speak perfect English, but you would probably find it much easier to communicate here.
As for what is better for visiting - Japan or Korea - it's totally down to your personal preferences. I'm not a big fan of Korean cuisine, I prefer Japanese mentality etc., so I wouldn't want to go to Korea once more as a tourist, but both countries are beautiful and have a lot to offer. I'm sure you'll enjoy your trip wherever you choose to go to.

We went for 2 weeks in Dec. It was great! Kids loved it and so did we. The whole trip was sooo pleasant despite constant rain for about 3 days.

We've been to Tokyo before and skipped that this time. Flew into Osaka and travelled around the Kansai region using a mixture of public transport and a rental car.

I would avoid August as it gets really hot and humid. As a first timer I would recommend you fly into Tokyo and use the bullet train to go into Kobe/Osaka/Kyoto. Their trains are so convenient. Disney land in Tokyo and USJ in Osaka are hugely popular with the kids.
