New York flights

Looking to go to New York next year to celebrate a big birthday! Just me and DH. Our nearest big airport is Manchester but direct flights are limited. Which would you say is the best London airport to use? Thank you!

NY hotels are eyewatering expensive at the moment - we struggled to get anything less than £300 a night for a Hampton Garden inn type place midtown. Definitely price up the full package whatever route you choose.

This is one the reasons why I'm keen for a package. The hotel I'm looking at is £4k for the dates whereas the package with flights and the same hotel is only £3k! Seems bonkers not to book that way.

The pre-clearance at Dublin is fantastic with Air Lingus but omg the planes….We had a relatively small plane out (x 2 rows of 3 seats) and it was a windy day.

five hours bouncing up and down over the Atlantic.

never again. BA have larger size planes at least, even if the service is crap.

We got an amazing deal through BA when we went, and flew to JFK from Heathrow. Gatwick is a hell hole to get to for us (Gloucestershire) so we very rarely book flights from there.

I've just looked at a BA flight hotel for mid February (not half term) and it's £3800 for 4 nights economy/crappy hotel (2 people) ShockShockShock

That surprises me. I'm looking at September, not term time and 5 nights in a 4 star hotel with economy flights is £3k. Or it was yesterday! Who knows what the prices will be like from day to day!

I've been but about 10 years ago, first time for DH. Any tips would be great, thank you!
