Not been for a few years but we enjoyed it when we went.
Take food and drink with you, if you can, and if there is any chance of rain take cagoules.

LeeHarper5 · 24/10/2022 22:56

We went in the summer holidays and it was heaving. No ride had a queue of less than 1 hour. In fact most were 90 minutes plus so we didn’t end up trying all of the rides. Queues for food and drink were equally bad so definitely take a picnic. The park is cashless too.
My advice would be research the rides before you go and head straight to those you really want to do. Legoland advise downloading their app for up to date queue times but I found it wasn’t very accurate.
We had a lovely time and I would go again… but I’ll definitely be buying fast track passes next time.

I was there today and Friday. We bought season passes a few months ago as my son loves it. In short, it really depends when you go and what age your child/children are. If you can go on a non-school/inset day it's much better. We went for the first time in July and the queues weren't that bad. We then went again in early September and it was much busier. We ended up buying the queue jump passes but then it's an expensive day out.

We didn't have queue jump passes this week and Friday was quieter as it wasn't proper half term. Today was busier but we never queued for more than 40-50 minutes and that was for the main rides (ninjago/dragon rollercoaster). Other rides were 10-30mins. The app is generally quite accurate but the times change frequently.

Our son is almost 5 and he can just about cope with a one hour queue - we went to Disneyland California a few months ago and he surprised us. We need snacks and games to keep him occupied and he still gets a bit ratty.

The food isn't great. Not many options and expensive. If you take sandwiches you can eat in a longer ride queue to kill some time.

You can help by being strategic. Get there early (eg 9.15 when it opens at 10). Start on a v popular ride - flight of the sky lion is the most popular/the best in my opinion. You need to get down there asap on entry (people actually run). We queued for approx 30 mins this morning versus the queue being 60+mins the rest of the day. Better to be there early and leave early if you can or the queue driving out can be painful. If you do stay to the end go for a v popular ride just before closing (that worked well for us with driving school previously).

The queuing can be annoying but I still think it's a good day out.

We loved it! We stayed in the castle hotel and it was just amazing. The only downside is the quality of the food (below average) and the price of the restaurants (extortionate).

Stickmansmum · 25/10/2022 00:28

It was tired and tatty, and overpriced. Queues took ages although they were small because they seemed very understaffed and like they were trying to keep a queue visible! Food was verging on inedible. Such a pity. I suspect it used to be good.

MN Legoland tips

QuinkWashable · 25/10/2022 05:54

we went a couple of easters ago, and stayed at the Hotel which was nice - but the park - the massive, queues - we were waiting over an hour to go on the log ride, and it was over in an instant! I wouldn't really even have described the place as very crowded.

The kids did love the splash park - but again, it took us 45 mins to get a slot

Personally I wouldn't go again. Or if I did, I'd do it during school time so it was less busy.

Morph22010 · 25/10/2022 06:03

We have the merlin passes, I would advise getting those one year as then you can do legoland a few times so it doesn’t matter if it’s overly busy one time. The passes also cover Alton towers, chessington, Thorpe park, all sealifes, Madame tussards, London eye, shrek, Warwick castle, all dungeons, Blackpool tower so you can have a lot of days out in the year. My sons too old for legoland now but we went lots of times when he was young. If you kids are young enough to go in termtime that’s your best bet

Roselilly36 · 25/10/2022 06:08

We have been a few times, once staying in the hotel and another time staying in a (cheaper) hotel close by. We really enjoyed our breaks, our boys loved it, I would recommend it. Yes, expect queues, mini land is lovely, we bought Lego land refillable cups, that worked out well (not sure if these are still a thing re. Covid) I would avoid the end of the summer, as often they get wasps. It’s quite hilly also. Lego is more expensive in the shop, just to warn you. But definitely worth a trip.

Roselilly36 · 25/10/2022 06:09

Agree with PP, take a picnic and eat it in Miniland.

autienotnaughty · 25/10/2022 06:16

It's fab if you go at a quiet time/term time otherwise the queues are horrific and the queue app sucks. Also foods rubbish and expensive.

OperaStation · 25/10/2022 06:29

Legoland is brilliant. We went twice this year (both during school holidays) and both times used the Reserve & Ride app which meant we never queued for more that 15 mins for a ride. I think it’s about £25 extra per person but worth every penny. We crammed in about 15 rides and there’s no way we could have done that if we had been in the regular queue.

Reserve and ride info here www.legoland.co.uk/tickets-passes/extras/reserve-and-ride/

As others have said, the food is dreadful and expensive so we took a picnic. You can refill water bottles and the drink refil stations.

Newjobformoremoney · 25/10/2022 06:33

This is all super helpful! We’re booked to go next weekend and are staying at the castle. Do only the people staying at the hotels get to go in that hour early? How busy is it then?

passport123 · 25/10/2022 06:35

Buy the queue jump things - they are expensive but I'd go once with the queue jump pass rather than twice without. Wouldn't go without in school holidays or weekend, pointless as you'll only get to do about 5 rides.

ginsparkles · 25/10/2022 06:39

We went yesterday. We didn't queue for more then 30 mins for anything and the longest queue time we saw was 60 mins.

We really enjoyed ourselves. We are not ones that enjoy rides much so only went on a couple but DD loved stopping at the places to build things and loved looking at all the things built out of Lego. DD is gluten free and they were really good accommodating her allergy when we stopped for lunch.

We stayed down the road at the voco hotel in reading and it was brilliant.

nancydroo · 25/10/2022 06:48

It's good fun. But don't pay extra to be a queue jumper, no one likes the queue jumpers.

babyorhouse · 25/10/2022 06:56

I haven’t been for about 7 years and have been twice in total. The first time stayed in a nearby holiday inn which was great with the all you can eat buffet breakfast to fill us up.
Second time we stayed in the castle hotel, which was great to be right next to the park so if you need to pop back for anything it’s handy. The room was cool, and we got early access to the park so we sussed out what rides were top of our list and did those in the early access. We also had the queue jumper thing on one of the two days and it was well worth it. Don’t eat in the restaurant, look on Google maps there’s a pub within walking distance which is loads cheaper and much better.

QuinkWashable · 25/10/2022 07:07

The queue jumpers aren't really queue jumpers - but more that you didn't have to wait in the queue - you could wander off and be buzzed to come back. I could have sworn that when we went they only let you be in one virtual queue at a time though - but that link says up to 25 now. I dunno. Saves you being in the queue, but you still have to loiter and wait...

Lego is more expensive in the shop, just to warn you. But definitely worth a trip

YES! I treated the kids in the hotel lego shop, then got home and discovered the little set was half the price in the online lego shop - TBH I was pretty angry about that.

herewego9 · 25/10/2022 07:23

I honestly thought it was appalling, as did my children. The queues are truly the worst of any theme park we've visited, the site is tired and the staff are (understandably) bored. Absolutely every ride has a massive queue, even the small 'filler' rides. We complained and were offered return tickets with fast passes for £15 a head. Wild horses couldn't drag me back, the worst family day out we've ever had by quite some margin.

ginsparkles · 25/10/2022 07:27

The two pieces of Lego we bought are the same price on the online shop as we paid at legoland.

bluechameleon · 25/10/2022 08:10

We love it. Best time we had was when we went for the Santa Sleepover, there aren't so many people so you can walk straight onto some of the rides. A few rides weren't open but the lack of queues made up for it. If you go in the summer or a weekend I'd recommend getting the Reserve and Ride passes. We've done the cheapest and the mid price ones and the cheapest are good enough - you join the queue virtually then when the time is up you can join the much shorter fast track queue. It means you can fit in other rides while waiting for the big rides. This might not work on a really busy day but I wouldn't choose to go then anyway.

Unseelie · 25/10/2022 09:03

We went in the summer and I was genuinely impressed - everything so clean, all the rides working, and we never stood in a queue longer than 15 minutes, because….

For queues there is basically a 4 tier system:

  1. people who pay a lot to skip all the queue instantly
  2. People who pay a little to skip most of the queue
  3. people who don’t pay anything extra but do have the legoland ‘virtual queue’ app so you can eg go to playground/ cafe while the app is queuing for you, then go to the front of the queue when its your turn, and
  4. People who didn’t know about the free app, and also haven’t paid extra for skip the line. These guys queue for a long time because they’re constantly being overtaken by thenother guys.

Go, and get the app! Is very good.

Havanananana · 25/10/2022 15:43

To be honest it might not cost much more to go to the original Legoland in Denmark, where the queues are nothing like those in Windsor. The park is right next to Billund Airport (flights from the UK from Stansted, Manchester, London, Birmingham) and there are the two big hotels (Lego and Lalandia) a good-value budget hotel (Zleep) and a few smaller hotels all within 5-10 minutes of the park. And then there is the fabulous Lego House, which requires a whole day just to see and try everything.

This summer's Ryanair flight plan, with an early morning flight from Stansted and a late evening return from Billund, meant that even a day trip was feasible, particularly if fares were only about £50-£60 return. I haven't checked the 2023 timetable.

for 3 you can’t just download a free app to virtually queue you also need to be disabled or have a disabled child and have proof that they can not queue

notdaddycool · 27/10/2022 07:12

Queues were awful and the worst queue of all was getting out of the car park which took over an hour at closing time. I’d go back if the kids really wanted to but my wife World say no way.
