Has anyone got an tips/must see/stay places for northern France? Our flight to Rome has been cancelled so I’ve just booked a eurotunnel crossing to Calais and thought we’d have a bit of an explore 🤦‍♀️🤣 We’ve got 5 days so can cover a bit of distance so any suggestions would be great!

Aaagh.... my long reply just disappeared, so here goes again!
Boulogne for its old medieval town and wonderful beaches.
Amiens for its cathedral and gorgeous floating gardens, les hortillonages.
Drive round the WWI battlefield sites, especially Thiepval and Vimy Ridge.
Perhaps Lille? My visit coincided with its massive annual flea market, so wasn't ideal for sightseeing, but many people like the city.
Also, if you have the time, how about venturing into Belgium? Bruges is lovely all round and the Ramparts Walk in Ypres is great in the autumn.
Whatever you choose, have a great trip!

Rouen is 2.5 hours from Calais. It’s a lovely city in itself, but also has lots of options for day trips. From there you can visit Monet’s garden in Giverny. You catch the train to Vernon (about 40mins), from where there’s a shuttle. I’ve just looked it up and the shuttle stops running at the beginning of November. It’s only a few km so you could take a taxi. That’s if you don’t want to drive which is what I would do personally, and visit La Roche-Guyon at the same time. Honfleur and Deauville make another good day trip in the opposite direction.
