Cabin case

Having done my first cruise last month I'm thinking about my next one, and having a carry on case (instead of a bag) in addition to my main case.

Reason being that your case has to be outside your cabin by midnight the night before you depart. Depending on your onward travel you could be waiting around most of the day for your flight, and I found it would have been handy to have a structured carry on case in which to pack some travel toiletries and a change of clothes along with all the travel gubbins like iPad, book, documents etc.

Anyone got any recommendations? I'm thinking it should be wheeled, and have a big front pocket for documents.

If you fly to get to the ship, think about the airline rules & charges for cabin bags.
Weight & dimensions differ between airlines, & I know RyanAir for example won't allow wheelie cases unless they're pre-booked & paid for.
DH has a small wheelie case, I've got a soft, squashy bag.
His bag has often been put in the hold on a full flight, mine never has. This is general, nothing to do with a cruise.

The other problem is liquids that you need in the morning. I've had to faff around transferring them to hold luggage before check-in & security

The biggest factor is the airline. They all have different rules, annoyingly.

This is very true....maybe I need recommendations for a cabin bag that fits the bill?

A structured one, so stuff is easily accessible. Maybe even with inside pockets? Does such a thing exist?!

When I cruise I put all my remaining stuff in a carrier in the morning and then put the bag in the case at the cruise terminal. It’s only minimal toiletries and night wear as I pack my evening clothes in the case before putting it outside my cabin at about 10.30 pm. I I also pack my normal travel bag with my passport and a book and carry that off the ship with carrier.
If not go for a 5 cities case, they are really lightweight and you can fit quite a bit in there.
Remember you can put stuff you don’t need in the case at the airport.

The cruise line whisked my case from my door at midnight and then I didn't see it again until I landed in the UK - great for not having to lug it round but bad for stuffing it at the airport 🤣

Just got the flight times for what will hopefully be my next cruise and it's an 11am flight home so no worries about having to have a change of clothing 😊

I'll keep looking for a bag though....

I've now fallen into a rabbit hole of cabin bags on Amazon after looking for a 5 cities case....... 🤣
