TUI or EasyJet?

We're booking flights for next summer and usually default to EasyJet but TUI has some good options available. I've never used them before but remember they may have been one of the companies all over the news in the last year for cancelled flights, check-in delays etc. I also can't see how flexible they are in terms of flight changes.

Any feedback appreciated.

EasyJet were also one of those companies!
They had a terrible summer.

Say what you like about RyanAir but our flights with them this year all ran within half an hour of schedules.

We've been away twice in the last year and each time the TUI queue was the one snaking around and outside the airport building while we strolled past and dropped our bags at the queue less Ryanair desk.

I flew Easyjet 3 times this summer - no cancellations and queues manageable.

A friend flew Tui 3 times. Once with a cancelled holiday, once with a 24 hour delay and the other fine.

Each time the Tui check in queue was outside the airport.

I'd do Easyjet.

Tui

@Silverpossum

As they say in some industries "Past performance is not indicative of future results”...so I'd be wary of looking at disruption and frequency of flight cancellations, TUI vs. Easyjet for Spring/summer 2022, assuming same will happen next year and perhaps booking on that basis.

Many airlines, definitely not just Easyjet or TUI, got clobbered by airports overpromising that they had the personnel to handle the rapid rise in passenger numbers and to some extent the airlines themselves got caught out by Covid still clobbering crew and so causing shortages in that area.

TUI caught the flack in the MSM but there were plenty of problems all over the place...the scale varied but no airline was exempt.

I guess if there's anything worth considering it's how TUI, Easyjet and all the other airlines handled the disruption when it did occur - were some airlines consistently better at looking after disrupted passengers than others?

TUI - the plane I was sat on was amazing . Flew to Cyprus from London had individual tv screens and it was a two story plane and quite plush
you might not get that model but TUI planes are much nicer than easy jet - easy jet are no frills whereas TUI pay a bit more attention to detail . They are more expensive though

BookHermitBlack · 17/10/2022 15:48

Neither (I used to use tui regularly so would choosethem over easyjet) however in recent years have found jet2 have been cheaper and more reliable.

RunAwayNow · 17/10/2022 19:00

We've flown with Tui a few times (flight only - booked accommodation ourselves). We might have been lucky but have never had a problem with them.

The dreamliners they use on busy short haul routes are also great - seat back tvs as standard and you can upgrade to extra leg room seats which we always do. Felt a much nicer experience than Easyjet.

Silverpossum · 18/10/2022 06:23

Thanks all! I usually have a good experience with EasyJet and sure I heard the TUI queue horror stories last summer - but TUI have really reasonable flights at good times on convenient dates... would like to try Jet2 but they're offering holidays only to our preferred location and we need flexibility in booking two hotels.

Easyjet is often a nightmare so now we try to avoid it if we can!

Lisa0842 · 05/10/2023 18:05

And packages are not always the cheapest, sometimes booking flights (aviasales.com) & accommodation (hotellook.com) separately can be more cost effective, but there are risks associated with that. If the flights are rescheduled or cancelled, you'll be left with accommodation you will or might still have to pay for. But I've done that countless times over the years and not had an issue, so far.

Silkiebunny · 06/10/2023 10:52

Never had a problem with TUI. I would go with TUI over Easyjet if everything else was equal. We fly out of London airports, smaller ones if we can.

BE WARNED!!! We already know, but just a reminder…Eadyjet are rip-off artists & shysters. Booked flight, added/PAID FOR hold luggage, decided to swap hold luggage for windsurf bag, couldn’t do it in-app so phoned them. Was told no, there’s no option to swap/refund bag, I have to add/PAY FOR 2nd bag also. Frickn thieves. DONT USE sleazyjet!!! TUI also fly!
