New York and Boston in a week?

I'm booking up half term late plan. DH has to go to NYC for work and I'm going with. I've been twice before admittedly last time was about 15 years ago. We will stay in Brooklyn.

I'm thinking of fitting in Boston in the same week staying 4/3 nights in each.

Is this enough time? I don't want to just stay in New York as I'd like to see something different.

Any suggestions of "must do" things to do and whether train or flight the best way to transfer? We are thinking of flying to Boston as train takes 5 hours now.

I've done the main tourist attractions in NYC before.

Definitely manageable and taken the coach between the two a few times with and without kids. I love Boston aquarium but personally love New York more. Enjoyed hiring a bike in Boston and riding the "Boston necklace" of parks

Thanks. Planning on flying between the 2 cities because its quicker and doesn't need seem to be adding to our flight cost.

It's been a long time since I did sightseeing in USA. I keep looking at itinerary suggestions but am interested in how other people spent their NYC/ boston trip.

It's absolutely doable - I did a similar trip a few years back. Flew into Boston and had a couple of days in the city, then hired a car and drove around New England for a week, then back to Boston to drop off the car, then got the train to New York and had another three nights there. It was absolutely magical and the contrast of garden city/beautiful shorelines and mountains/buzzing city meant it felt like so many holidays in one!!

@SnackyOnassis that sounds like an amazing trip. I'd love to drive around New England. We only have the half term week but some of the trip is a business expense at least.

Sounds totally doable. But ideally fly home from Boston at the end to save time.
also personally I’d look at a one way car rental and take a long day to do the journey (sure you can find some interesting stops)

I wouldn't bother flying. We usually get a bus from Penn. Car rental is the best option and agree with flying out of Boston. There is plenty to occupy you within Boston itself (the freedom trail, foliage on the Common, tea party ships, market hall etc. The surrounding region has some gems but not for the stated timeframe. Perhaps you could do Salem en route between the two cities.

Fine
drive up is easy enough
