Would you fly Royal Air Maroc re: airline safety?

Hi, I'm a very nervous flyer but love travelling. Have a choice for hol next year of interconnecting flight via Lisbon with TAP Portugal, or direct flight with Royal Air Maroc.

TAP have a fab safety record, but i don't think I'd cope with double tajw off/ landing (that's the worst bit for me).

Royal Air Maroc aren't mentioned in any of the Top 10 / 20 Safest lists anywhere. But they aren't listed as the worst either. What are your thoughts / experiences? & please don't tell me "airplanes are the safest way to travel", believe me I've done courses, hypnotherapy, meds, the lot...feeling like I've picked the safest option I can is one of the only ways I can get myself where I want to go!

I'm bored, I just had a look at Wiki, the safety record for TAP is pretty much the same for both, RAM had one more accident than TAP but that was the pilot's deliberate action

TippyToesKnows · 12/10/2022 13:17

Oh crikey, deliberate action sounds worrying as that would mean stressed pilots etc potentially...

I would read it as he could have been a pilot on any airline.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 12/10/2022 14:18

Yes I would
you're way overthinking

Expatting · 12/10/2022 14:37

My DH flies with them quite a lot for work. He's still here...

Sorry this probably isn't helpful, but personally I would only fly with a European or North American based airline. I know they have had their incidents too and it's probably prejudiced of me, but I just feel (rightly or wrongly) that I can trust the safety systems/procedures from EU or North America whereas I don't know as much about other places.

BertieBotts · 12/10/2022 14:51

You might want to check if it's actually their plane/pilot though. Sometimes I found out airlines will all sell tickets for the same flight but of course the flight is only actually being operated by one airline. E.g. the other day I took a Lufthansa flight and it was also numbered as an Austrian airline and an American one, but it was a Lufthansa plane.

Good point @BertieBotts

I've flown RAM a lot for work and never had any issue at all with them.

If they’re allowed to fly within the EU then they are a safe airline OP

BertieBotts · 12/10/2022 16:36

Yes, sorry, perhaps the EU ban list was the one I was thinking of rather than a blanket no to all airlines from different continents! Having had a quick glance it's all airlines from other continents (plus Russia) on the no fly list so I think that's what I was thinking of.

I believe they take airport security quite seriously in Morocco, if that is any help ( from a couple of Moroccan patients who spend ages in security whenever they go home/ fly back, and they are an elderly couple so not usual terrorist profile).

You could get that with a nice safe sounding European Airline.

Remember this? German airline, low cost subsidiary of Lufthana

But, yes if an airline is allowed to fly over European airspace they have to meet European regulations, so as safe as can be.

Some are banned for political reasons but others for not complying with the relevant safety directive.
