Will TUI sit me with my kids?

Dingdong99 · 10/10/2022 09:56

I am a self confessed cheapskate and I resent having to pay extra money to ensure our family is seated together. Plus the only seats left are at the back and are £20 each

Do you think we can wing it and assume that if we are two adults and two kids, they will they sit each adult with a child (4 and 7 years old)? Or could we be stuck with the kids being sat on their own?

Could you ring and ask?

RudsyFarmer · 10/10/2022 09:59

I’d wing it personally.

EspressoPatronumm · 10/10/2022 10:00

I wouldn't move for you to sit next to your kids if I've paid to sit next to mine.

TightDiamondShoes · 10/10/2022 10:02

I’ve paid the extra to book seats. It’s a 5 hour flight and they’ve not been on a plane in years so it’ll be special for them. Plus I want them close to open my wine when I’ve had too many.

MossGrowsFat · 10/10/2022 10:03

They have to seat your kids with an adult (but could be behind or infront) doesn't have to be next to or anywhere near your husband

But the reality is you are a CF who will expect other passengers that have paid to sit together to move.

Toottooot · 10/10/2022 10:04

Sitting in the rowin front and behind and across the aisle is considered as them seating you next to your family. Just pay up if you want to guarantee you are sitting with your geets.

Toottooot · 10/10/2022 10:05

Row in - not rowin before I’m pulled up.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 10/10/2022 10:07

pay the money

BalmyBalmes · 10/10/2022 10:11

Depends on type of holiday IME.
We've flown with TUI loads of times on their ski flights and are always automatically sat together. Hardly anyone bothers paying to choose seats unless they need extra legroom. When I do the online check in our seats are already allocated and all together (and mine are older teenagers now)

Flights for summer holidays are a whole different ball game though, I'm not quite sure why tbh!
They will allocate 1 adult with 1 child but could be across aisle or row in front/behind

ofwarren · 10/10/2022 10:14

I wouldn't risk it since they seated our then 5 year old on the row behind.
It's not worth the hassle.

Yeah this. Tbh I wouldn't move for you if I've paid for my seat.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 10/10/2022 10:20

Don’t be a cheapskate.

Would you ask others to move to accommodate you? If I’d paid (I would have done and I’m usually flying solo), I would swap IF it were like for like. If, however, you were asking me to swap my window seat for a middle or aisle, the answer would be no.

dontputitthere · 10/10/2022 10:22

The bigger question is are you all okay with the possibility of your kids being sat away from you (iirc a seat in front of one another is counted as 'near' so you could be sat like that)

Because it's fine being a cheapskate and not bothering. It's not fine to then whinge and expect people who have paid to move for you.

ocadodeliveroo · 10/10/2022 10:24

I'm a big advocate of paying the money. I almost didn't once and I would have regretted it.

With that said, I doubt they would sit 2 kids together.

Dingdong99 · 10/10/2022 10:24

I wouldn't ask anyone to move, that would be really unfair. Was more wondering if an airline had a rule about sitting under 10's with an adult or similar

So it's probably safer to pay if they dont do this automatically

I wouldn't bank on it personally. We flew with one of the bigger international airlines earlier his year and were upgraded, but consequently allocated seats. We were given two seat together and two randomly dotted round he cabin. Our kids were 6 & 9.
so, on a 9 hour flight, I was sat with the 6 year old, 9 year old was on his own and so was DH!

if you wouldn't be happy with that happening, I would pay.

ReadyForPumpkins · 10/10/2022 10:25

Mine are 11 and 8 and it's the first time I'm not paying for seats. I'll let them sit in or behind me or across the aisle. I've always paid before.

It wont be YOU doing the asking. TUI will do it in order to ensure kids are sat with an adult so therefore although technically not YOU but it is YOU.

7eleven · 10/10/2022 10:31

I was on a flight that was delayed at least 40 mins whilst the crew tried to sort this out. CF mother stood there smirking whilst the stressed staff ran up and down the plane asking for volunteers to move.

I was so pissed off and made my feelings known.

When we got off, one of the ‘children’ looked old enough to bloody shave!

PuttingDownRoots · 10/10/2022 10:37

We asked them this question... andwer was yes, but it could be in front/behind across an aisle etc.

I wouldn't risk it in schoolholidays... People will have booked next to their own children so couldn't swap even if they wanted to. I'd risk term time.

I second this. I wouldn’t be moving either

Doggiedoodoos · 10/10/2022 10:39

Hate tight fuckers like you. Pay the damn money and sit with your kids. You say you wouldnt ask someone to move if they didnt sit you with your kids but guaranteed you would. No self respecting parent would let a 4 or 7 year old sit alone and I certainly would not want to be sat next to someone elses kid either. That said I would literally die in the seat before moving because someone refused to pay to be sat with their kids.

Nadal · 10/10/2022 10:41

With young children, this is a necessary expense in my opinion. Ensure your holiday is as stress free as possible and pay the money.

sunshineandsuddenshowers · 10/10/2022 10:42

It’s the stupid airlines fault for making it optional. Much better to make it compulsory to have seat bookings when kids are too young to sit alone. I think EasyJet used to do that. It’s a system that doesn’t work.
