Yes. Despite wearing a FFP3 mask I still managed to pick it up. But I think DH and I were the only ones masked including the cabin crew.
Ah well. I think it’s the price we pay for mingling. The holiday was wonderful tho.

spiderontheceiling · 11/10/2022 23:15

It's also worth taking a few in case the rules change whilst you're out there

nocoolnamesleft · 11/10/2022 23:17

Wearing a properly fitted FFP3 mask, and eye protection, massively reduces the risk of catching Covid. Wearing a surgical mask helps somewhat. Everyone wearing a surgical mask helps enormously.

TizerorFizz · 12/10/2022 09:27

@nocoolnamesleft But no one does!!! The rags are wet and yucky after and during a 10
hour flight. Little blue masks do next to nothing. Most people push them down under their noses! So be honest: on planes the standard mask worn has virtually no effect regarding catching COVID. It’s not much more than virtue signalling. Thank god we’ve avoided masks on our recent flight to/from
usa.

By all means wear a mask during meals and drinking. An eye mask too. Why not? Fun watching that film.

I’ve not had anyone coughing and sneezing near me. You have to take the mask off. It doesn’t matter what you wear. I don’t wear manky masks but others do. You can be incubating COVID for at least 10!days before you fly. It’s just not possible to live in purdah and avoid it.

Blix · 12/10/2022 15:00

Incubation with Omicron is no more than a couple of days.

Everyone I know who has flown recently has come home with covid.
So whether mandatory or not I would. We flew to Lanzarote in April. I bought these FFP3 masks and wore them at airport, during flight and in taxi at destination. I changed the mask twice but it was much more manageable than I expected. None of our party got covid, or any other virus.

In the past I always picked up a virus when flying, ended up with pneumonia in 2019. So now that masks are easily available I'll never fly without one again.

mrsrobin · 12/10/2022 16:11

I have recently been to the other side of the world on 8 different flight, 2 different airlines. On all the airline websites it stated you had to wear them. In reality hardly anyone did (except the staff). I have come home without Covid and didn't wear a mask anywhere. I am not convinced they do a lot unless as a PP says, you wear a proper mask and eye protection. I would just stuff one in your pocket in case you are told you have to wear one.

TizerorFizz · 12/10/2022 17:35

I’ve flown recently to and from USA.No one wore masks. Wasn’t ill. None of my friends have been ill after flying either. Some people say incubation can be longer than 2 days! The government also says a mask may help you not to catch it. Not will. When you can get it from droplets on surfaces, if you eat, you can catch it!

shinynewapple22 · 19/10/2022 21:24

It depends on the airline . Ryanair and jet2 'advise' you to wear them but it's not compulsory and very few people have worn them on recent flights that I've been on. Don't know about other airlines.

You will need to wear masks on public transport in Spain and it's islands so if you travel by local bus when you are there . When DS travelled with Jet2 they had to wear a mask on the transfer coach .

I would hope so, with all that air circulating around.

TizerorFizz · 22/10/2022 09:21

@pixie5121
Ive never been ill. I fly business and I’m happy with what I do. You can do what you want and I’ll do what I want. Thanks for your concern for me but I’ve 4 jabs now so I’m happy to be myself and not you. Looking around, most are like me..

SoupDragon · 22/10/2022 09:44

If you don't want to wear a mask, then don't wear one, but this is just delusion and lying to yourself and trying to make yourself feel better about the risk you're taking

it's the same risk you take with any location and any infectious disease. Have you always worn a mask in public?

TizerorFizz · 22/10/2022 13:02

@SoupDragon
Thats exactly it, isn’t it. Risks abound. It’s not possible to eliminate risk.

Mosik · 22/10/2022 14:14

It's a fair question. The answer is no, but I would have liked to. Every time I flew for years I would pick up a virus. I have various health conditions that make me tend to be more ill. I remember pre-covid reading about a celeb who wore a fasemask when flying and wished I had the courage.
I don't wear a mask at any other time now, but will always wear one when flying in future as I don't want to be unwell on holiday whether it's covid or any other bug.

my logic is perfectly sound thanks. Resorting to insults is a sign of a poor argument.

TizerorFizz · 22/10/2022 20:25

@SoupDragon @pixie5121 We did of course know the ramifications of Measles, mumps and rubella but many don’t get Dc vaccinated. So knowing about something for definite still means people take risks and weigh things up.I didn’t fly in the middle of the pandemic. I’ve had 4 jabs now. I believe I’m less at risk. I took the view DCs should have MMR jabs. We decided to lessen risk but mask wearing is a step too far right now. Whatever the longer term ramifications I’m happy to take my chances.
