We have an all-inclusive holiday in Turkey booked for in a couple of weeks but I'm a bit worried about some of the reviews saying people were unwell after eating the food. What can I pack to make sure that we are prepared in case this happens to us? 2 adults, 2 kids aged 6+. Immodium? Dioralyte? Thanks

Buscopan scan be useful for stomach cramps.
Flat Coke is good if you can’t stomach dioralyte.

Immodium or similar you can get fast acting melts I always take some diarrhoea relief when I'm on holiday . There's not a lot for vomiting you can take.

Mrsjayy · 08/10/2022 12:03

Oh yes buscopan .

KangarooKenny · 08/10/2022 12:04

I just take Immodium, but I prefer to let nature take its course if I can.

Buscopan for cramps, omeprazole for upper stomach queasy mess , Imodium for the trots, dioralite for rehydration.

If you are unwell for more than 36 hours see a doctor. Not been to Turkey, but in Egypt they had some tablets that some fellow holidaymakers were prescribed that seem to do the trick. Try not to worry too much and enjoy your holiday.

I take rennies, immodium, dioralyte, esomeprazole, paracetamol and ibuprofen. Rarely need to use them but they are handy to have available

gogohmm · 08/10/2022 12:25

Imodium (check suitable for kids) or generic equivalent. Flat fizzy drinks are a good substitute for diorolyte so no need to take. I carry crackers (ritz or similar) which are good but I need them for heartburn anyway doubling up for salt with the flat Fanta

I often use the generic melts they are easy to take don't need water they are a couple of £ . Flat lemonade and some crisps Is a bit more palatable than dyoralyte

Why are you planning to eat somewhere with a track record of poisoning people?

There are some really dangerous bugs you can pick up that way.

PAFMO · 08/10/2022 12:56

Loperamide is the ingredient in immodium etc so get generic ones which cost about a quarter of the branded ones.

rewardacrosstrack · 08/10/2022 13:24

I'd recommend enterosgel. Seemed to significantly reduce the duration of any diarrhoea - really surprised me how good it was

The trots 😂😂😂😂😂😂 I haven't heard that for years 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Reallyreallyborednow · 08/10/2022 13:35

Immodium is not recommended for food poisoning. Your gut is getting rid of the bacteria, but preventing that you are just keeping the bacteria in a nice warm environment where they can replicate and it’ll all get a whole lot worse.

Diaoralyte, rehydration sachets, water sterilising tablets etc all a better option.

erikbloodaxe · 08/10/2022 13:49

@tickticksnooze I expect not eating for the duration of the holiday would be rather dangerous really.

cheeseandcrackers · 08/10/2022 13:50

Thanks all, really helpful. Very much hoping I won't need it but would prefer to be prepared than trying to find a Turkish pharmacy at a probably very inconvenient time!
