Thinking of Riga in February with kids (youngest nearly 10, oldest 14.) Currently watching you tube videos on it but haven't seen any recent info on prices of eg a coffee, a main course evening meal, or anything aimed at children....maybe a leisure pool. Can anyone help?

I will ask my friend soon...he is from riga and goes back 4 times a year...he did say some items are outrageous prices....things like toothpaste...

£3 for a coffee...in chains, £1 or £2 in small cafes

Dinner in self catering restaurant about £10 each

nice restaraunt about 15 to 20 each

he says food shopping is about the same price as uk and swimming pools etc cost more than uk.

I stopped there on a cruise this summer and prices were a bit cheaper than in the UK.

We were in Riga a couple of weeks ago - absolutely beautiful city but unless your children were really into museums and architecture, I'm not sure you'd find much for them to do. One of mine would have loved it at that age, the other would have hated it! Prices we found were about the same as they are here.

Bear in mind that it's likely to be really cold in February and everything really is walkable so you'll spend a lot of time outside.

We went in September pre-Covid and had a super time. Prices cheaper than UK.
Took a train trip to Sigulda - think we paid £7 return. There’s a cable car, and also a huge zip wire that takes you right over the valley.
We also did a great bike tour, that would have been suitable for that age.

I wouldn't go to Riga in February. It can get well into the minus 20s and not sure there'd be much to do in the winter outside a ski resort. My boyfriend is Latvian so we do visit but only when it's hot so we tend to be able to swim in the sea and river.

He's actually in Riga right now though so I'll ask him what there is to do in winter. He's never wanted to go back there himself outside of summer.

We travel to Rīga several times a year to see family and I love going every time. However in Feb with two teen/almost teens I would not advise. Better wait until the summer, lots of great outside places to dine but these are closed or not as atmospheric in the winter. Unless the love museums or architecture they might find it a bit boring. What about Budapest and you can warm up in the spas?
