Holiday 30 weeks pregnant - any travel tips?

I will be 29/30 weeks pregnant by the time DP's birthday rolls around next year. First baby for us both.

It's tradition for me to buy him us a holiday every other year as his present.

I was looking at Bruges for March. I'm worried about flying pregnant so I was looking at Eurostar but the costs are pretty steep when compared to a flight. I have previously travelled both by standard and first class, and found standard to be very cramped even when I was not pregnant and much slimmer than I am now.

Or should I just sack off the idea of international travel and do a UK city break? But we did those to death during Covid and I miss traveling to new places 😕 and I know it'll be a good few years at least before we get to go away again once baby arrives.

Any experience or wisdom will be much appreciated!

It's a really short flight so I wouldn't worry about being cramped up. Eurostar is a great way to go but it's a really short distance to drive if you get the ferry obviously depends on your starting point they also do a nice overnight ferry so you could make a "cruise" out of it too ?

At 30 weeks I'd book in to a spa hotel in the UK and have a pregnancy massage and comfy bed.

At 30 weeks I'd want to be in my home country, just in case any issues came up while we were away.

Check that you can get decent travel insurance that covers all eventualities wrt your pregnancy first - if you can get good cover, then go! I flew many times when I was pregnant (last time was just before 36 weeks), no problems.

Why will it be a good few years before you can go away?

I just can't imagine it being fun or relaxing to be on holiday with a baby or toddler. Whether I've seen very young children in holiday they have been crying, the parents have looked stressed etc. I don't fancy paying £££ to be stressed in another country with a baby. Of course we might get lucky, but there's no way of knowing that and I'm not sure that I want to gamble!

The key to a family holiday is if baby / toddler is happy, parents are happy.

I think where the problems occur is if you try to shoehorn the kids into what you want to do before they're ready.

I hate the assumption that holidays with children are hard work or stressful. We go away several times a year and have done since they were tiny. It's amazing.

Rather than risking something happening abroad at 30 weeks pregnant why not save that money and go after the baby is born?

Could you book it for his birthday but earlier? I went to Barcelona at 16 weeks and it was fine but by 30 weeks I wasn't able to walk longer than 15 mins without a break or I got braxton hicks. I guess if you more go for a beach/pool resort type break it would be fine but I'd be worried if it's a city break and you walk a lot (we do)

Hadsimilar dilemma as it was my bday recently and DP usually takes me away but I really didnt want to be locked into anything (am 30wks) so Ive banked it til next year once we know how baby is etc.... and SOOOOO GLAD we did cos im really not up for foreign travel right now, i feel huge and struggling to sleep, generally exhausted and quite nauseous again... so would say whatever you book make sure its refundable if needed as you may get to 30 weeks and really just want to hibernate 😅🥰
