We're considering this for next summer. Has anyone been that can give any tips please? Wondering what level of accommodation to go for and the best length of stay? Thank you.

How long to stay, which company to book with and what accommodation to pick will depend on the age of your dc and whether or not you’ll be driving.
We booked our ferry travel through Eurocamp, and it was considerably cheaper than booking it direct with the ferry operator. Booking it via Eurocamp also meant the cost of the ferry was added to the holiday price so we only had to pay the balance 8 weeks before departure.
Eurocamp check in is 3pm but we arrived at Duinrell at 10am. You can use the facilities of the park until your holiday home is ready, so you might want to book an early crossing time.
We did, however, find that the so called top of the range cabins were in poor condition and they even gave us the keg for the wrong cabin - we found another family staying in it! Next time I think I’ll book direct with Duinrell as cabins looked much nicer than the Eurocamp or Canvas ones. Booking direct also gives you three free hours in the Tiki Bad each day.
It's a HUGE site so I would pay the extra to choose your location. We were about a 20min walk from the entrance which was a bit of a pain with a toddler and young child. It's expensive to hire the go kart thingy for a whole week - we did it for a day and it was fun though.

Leakingroofagain · 30/09/2022 13:51

I heard they've changed it to only allow two pool times which has put us off.

usernotfound0000 · 30/09/2022 13:54

@Fivemoreminutes1 thank you for your reply. Kids will be 8 and 4. I've priced up a week but didn't know if that might be too long? We plan on driving and taking the overnight ferry. Another option was doing Monday to Friday then doing a few days at Efteling before coming home.

There are some amazing new cabins I would enquire about these. We usually stay around a week. You can catch the bus at the gate to Den Hagg and explore the rest of the Netherlands.
We had major issues with school kids this year and the queues for rides were crazy. Still recommend it as a base to explore

usernotfound0000 · 30/09/2022 13:56

@Mychitchatdays was that in the summer holidays? I did wonder if it might be better doing in a half term week but would like the warm weather!

Never stayed inside Duinrell as my dc not into rides etc but we stay in that area of NL often and it’s really great for a more exploring holiday.

Was have been loads over the years. The quietest time is definitely over the October week we get in Scotland.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 30/09/2022 14:18

A week is definitely not too long!

Can you give examples of what you 'explore'?

MegBusset · 30/09/2022 14:42

Word of warning to those thinking about booking directly - we were due to go in 2020 and had to cancel due to Covid, their customer service was appalling and they refused to return our deposit even though this went against their own T&Cs. We had to get it back through our credit card provider in the end. I'd still like to go one day but would book through Eurocamp etc to avoid a repeat.

We explore the towns and cities.

Have been many times, it's one of our favourite places !!

This is the one we stay in , it even has a sauna www.duinrell.com/holiday-park/duingalows/premium-plus-8-person-with-sauna.

October definitely the best time and it's amazing value then.

A week would be great. So much to do . Into Amsterdam for a day - Van Gogh, Anne Frank etc.
Visit Den Haag, Leiden, cycle to the beach, do a day in Efteling !!

It is a wonderful place. Do a search here, loads of info posted before.

What's the weather like in October?

We went the last week of the summer holidays and lots of Dutch schools had already gone back to school so it wasn't overly busy.
We booked direct with duinrell and had a comfort lodge but tbh I'd pay more for a better lodge. It was nice but the bedrooms were soooooo cramped (and we do a lot of caravan holidays!). Nice and private garden area though.
Ours loved duinrell. I think they were about 11 and 14? They keep asking to go again!
A week is a nice length of time as you can explore other areas. We had a day at a nearby beach, and a day in Amsterdam. There were other places I would have liked to have visited too.

wizbit93 · 30/09/2022 18:48

Forgot to say that we flew. It was about a 40 min flight from London. Took about half an hour in a taxi (Tesla!) at the other end.

FoodieToo · 30/09/2022 19:17

Only get the Premium Duingalows, the rest are awful.
Weather nice in October. We have had very sunny holidays at that time, but can be a little chilly . Have also had cloudy times .
Generally very nice though , no rain .

Schnooze · 30/09/2022 19:22

We’ve been several times over the years and had a great time. We’ve been in either may half term or the last week in august when all the European kids have returned to school. We always did the over night ferry and return day crossing.

Loads of stuff to do. A week is definitely not too long.

Frazzled2207 · 01/10/2022 09:18

Following as planning this for next summer. Sounds great. My kids will be 8 and 10 so not too old?

Schnooze · 01/10/2022 10:12

Absolutely not. It’s great for all ages and really safe for groups of young teens to go off on their own. There are some bigger rides in the theme park and big slides and rides in the pool. There wouldn’t be as much for toddlers and really young children.

Similar to the south of the U.K.

There is a Facebook group called something like chats and tips for holidays duinrell which is helpful and has real photos and videos of the accommodation.

Bear in mind if you book direct swimming is free. If you book with canvas or eurocamp it is £10 per person.

If you want to take advantage of the cheaper ferries you can book a few nights with eurocamp or canvas as well as staying with duinrell.

Baconbutties · 01/10/2022 10:44

We booked three times direct with duinrell their own accommodation looked much better than eurocamp etc . We went for premium duingalows with decking and they were really nice and def looked better and more spacious than the other caravans . the website was really good for booking and you can choose the location etc . We did a weeks holiday at duinrell plus overnight ferry. Lots to do at duinrell plus nice beaches,it’s next to a lovely town called wassenaar hire bikes and easy to get to other cities eg park and ride to Amsterdam . We never had to queue much at all during July/august .

MrsMcT · 01/10/2022 10:45

My parents used to take us when we were kids which was over 20 years ago and it was brilliant then. No idea what it's like now but there was always loads for us to do and plenty of other kids to play with.
