Has to be Feb, has to be the above places and to make matters worse has to be easyjet.
Four to seven days. Which would you choose?

Thanks

It depends what you want. You won't get a beach holiday in Amy of those places as it won't be hot enough.

Lots of those are tourist areas and will be very quite then.

You would probably be better on a city break

MossGrowsFat · 28/09/2022 14:59

Thanks @maddy68 want I want and what I can have are sadly different!

It has to be one of the above, I guess the one which seems to have the most open might be our best bet. We like walking, if Malta or Cyprus I'd hire a car, museums, small towns/villages, non tourist restaurants.

We've done Malta during feb half term before, it was not beach warm but it was no coats and even a cardigan needing to be removed if you were sat in the sun.

We used the buses to get around (no way would I drive over there) and seemed to always get Londoners behind the wheel, everything was open and we had a good time. I seem to remember it was quite good value too.

Incrediblebuttrue · 28/09/2022 15:04

I love Naples - lots to see and food to die for.

SunnySomer · 28/09/2022 15:08

I’d go to Naples. We’ve been to Cyprus at February half term and it was bitterly cold - probably felt colder than it actually was due to lack of central heating. The mountains may well be snowy then so you’d need to be prepared for wintry weather if walking

Useyourfork · 28/09/2022 15:10

If you do Naples, there’s Pompeii and you can climb to the top of the volcano. All in easy reach on the train.

losingit31 · 28/09/2022 15:15

Cyprus is very seasonal - most tourist hotels are closed until April.

TakeYourCanvasBags · 28/09/2022 15:17

I have family in Cyprus and tend to visit regularly in February - mainly because it's a good time for me to take off work, rather than it being a good time to actually visit the island.

It can be very wet in Cyprus in February. Occassionally we've got lucky with good weather but more often than not it has rained heavily for days on end. It can also be cold - temparatures drop sharply at night. It's fine for us, staying in a heated home with family but not so good for a tourist experience. For that reason, a lot of restaurants and attractions are closed at this time of year too - althogh away from the touristy areas, this shouldn't be as much of an issue. On a positive note, there are bargains to be found for flights and accommodation and if you do get lucky with the weather, it can be quiet and peaceful. Also if you take a trip up the Troodos mountains, the snow-covered landscapes are spectacular. There are lots of stalls at the top of the mountain selling fresh, hot honey-coated cashews and there is nothing nicer than going for a stroll on a crisp, bright day in the crunchy snow, with a bag of those in hand, and then driving back down the mountain to see sunshine and blue sea.

It's a gamble though - from the advice you've had here, it sounds like the other options may be better for this time of year.

PS - the Cyprus advice is heavily based around experiences in Paphos and Limassol. I don't know the other side of the island so well.

PollyCreo · 28/09/2022 21:41

Paphos is hit or miss in February - 2020 during the first lockdown it was really warm (23c every day) but this year it was horrendous, it was down to 8c at times. As PP said, it is very cold at night and many businesses close down so there's not a great choice of restaurants etc.

DuesToTheDirt · 28/09/2022 21:47

We went to Malta over New Year. We're not beach people, so don't care about that. Weather varied between cold and windy but sunny, and nice and sunny. It was sometimes cold in restaurants and museums, it's not as well heated indoors as the UK I think.

There was plenty to do - walking, history, fortresses, underground sites etc., and we got around using the buses.

IScreamMonday · 28/09/2022 21:53

Naples - lovely days out to Pompeii etc without tourists and a relaxing day or two at the thermal pools on Ischia

Isseywith3witchycats · 29/09/2022 18:19

we went to cyprus this year in may and due to the russian situation it was a lot quieter than we expected all the russian hotels were shut as russians cant travel there at the moment so felt more down market than we were expecting but yes the troodos mountains are amazing and varosha was an experience, malta lots to do if you want culture plenty of places to see valletta and mdina were fascinating naples theres pompei the amalfi coast but have read reviews and naples is not the cleanest city in the world so prepare for lots of beggars and homeless people

MissMarpleRocks · 30/09/2022 09:13

If you go to Cyprus in February you’ll need blankets & hot water bottle at night. Well at least I do!

That’s interesting @Isseywith3witchycats where were you staying? I’ve just come back & all the hotels near me (my family are there) were open.

Which are the Russian hotels just out of interest?

Isseywith3witchycats · 30/09/2022 12:20

hello we went to Protarus i didnt really look at names just you could see which ones were definitely not open as i say we went early season maybe more opened later we stayed at the bohemian gardens

MissMarpleRocks · 30/09/2022 12:24

Ahh that explains it. A lot of the Cypriots start going from June & especially in August. Not as many Russians in Protaras they are mainly in Limassol.

Geamhradh · 30/09/2022 12:34

I don't know the others but I live about an hour from Naples and February is the most unreliable winter month here. We always comment on mild December and January and batten down the hatches for February.
Temperatures last Feb had a low of 0c and a high of 16c with an average 70mm rainfall.
Lots of things will be closed as hotel owners/restaurant owners in tourist areas take their own holidays then. The restaurant opposite my house (I'm on the coast) closes from Jan-March.
It wouldn't be my choice, I imagine Cyprus would be warmer.

Geamhradh · 30/09/2022 12:38

PS the most popular thermal pools in Ischia are closed from Nov-April.

DuesToTheDirt · 30/09/2022 23:26

I have a doubled barrelled name because I am absolutely not comfortable giving up my name. Of course my name came from my father but here is where that stops. It is my name now. I don't really understand what the alternative is. Either take your husband's name or your father's. To me, the one I was born with is the one to go forward with. Where else do I get a name from?

Well said.

Names are important and are a part of our identity. If they weren't important, men would happily give up theirs.

DuesToTheDirt · 30/09/2022 23:27

arrgh, wrong thread, ignore that!

PollyCreo · 01/10/2022 01:13

Sorry yes, even if February is warm during the day in Cyprus - the nights will be very cold. The sun sets at exactly 5pm and the temperature plummets. You can be walking in the sun blissfully at 4.30pm, next thing you're freezing your ass off.

katels1985 · 13/10/2022 23:04

Hi, i live in Cyprus and have done for 10 years. I personally would not visit as a tourist in Feb, its cold, stormy and rainy. Beautiful island, but not in the middle of winter. I would expect Malta to be similar as its in the same area. Hope this helps your decision x

midsomermurderess · 14/10/2022 00:20

Go to Malta and take the ferry over to Gozo. It has a rather ramshackle charm, there’s walking to be had. It really quite sweet.

Funf · 14/10/2022 17:58

This any use?

EwwSprouts · 15/10/2022 17:51

Fly to Naples then 1 hour train to Rome & stay there for 4 days.

SeeYouJimmy · 21/10/2024 12:42

Having virtually signed up to a Canaries holiday in Feb 25, I now read that the locals are protesting against tourism. So be it. I will not go where I'm not wanted.

I have an aversion to Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt (!), so my choices are getting limited. I don't need a beach (necessarily) but I do like to feel reasonably warm. I do not want to fly to the other side of the world and I need a direct flight from Glasgow. What do you think?

By the way, I have just returned from Croatia. Quite pleasant, although I understand its packed in high season. Worth a look for a winter/Early Spring break.
